Weekly poll results: wide cameras still beat telephoto ones as monochrome ones fade

15 July 2018
Monochrome has fallen out of fashion - people no longer feel monochrome sensors are needed to get good low-light shots and instead prefer tele and wide-angle cameras.

My limitation is that of money, time, and resources. If the likes of Xiaomi would hire me as an intern or consultant to push out a small batch (100 devices), we could craft the prototypes without much issue. Once that hard part is done, the rest is just mass production (

Walter C. Dornez, 16 Jul 2018Isn't that where the motherboard and ram go though? No, the motherboard is the whole silicon and the RAM is internalised in the CPU/GPU/DSP block. Hence, why we commonly do not refer to the ARM as a standalone "processor" and instead refer to it as a SoC (System on a Chip).

Trust me, it is do-able and not as difficult as you might think.
The important part is if there are any OEMs willing to do so. It will definitely cost more money to incorporate TWO led flash and laser autofocus units and TWO primary cameras such as IMX 380. Most manufacturers usually get a lower-grade Sony Exmor camera, and combine that with a cheap OmniVision camera, and a single LED. Technically they're both "Dual Cameras" so they are equal when it comes to Marketing, but not Cost. OEMs always cheap out, which is the sound decision for the short-term...but not a good solution for a long-term.

Wide cameras are waste in smartphone

Anonymous, 15 Jul 2018I want someone to beat Huaweis P20 Pro cameraWhich camera? :) Well if its about main fov - normal fov, xz2premium is coming, be it performance in color or monochrome, it should be better in quality. Though half in resolution, and on smaller color sensor and monochrome res., quality is better across whole frame(optics), it got higher real color resolution(visible in patterns, means more true picture), better triple sensor tech, bigger monochrome pixels, more image processing power. Scene is chosen well even without AI.
