AnonD-152638, 16 Jul 2018You have completely misunderstood the difference. A 18:9 o... moreI'm not sure if you know App Behaviour on Android, because it is "Resolution Independent".
Sure there are limitations, but it depends a lot on the OS.

The reason why this is relevant is because I know for a FACT that you do not have a BB Key2, so you actually have NOT tested it. So you know NOTHING about how its Operating System behaves.

So until you can independently test and PROVE your contention, well until then, my point still stands. The "weird" aspect ratio of the Key2 is closer to the "standard" 16:9 than the other "weird" ratio of the S8/S9/iPhone X.

Kangal, 15 Jul 2018Again, you complained about the "weird" aspect ratio. Howe... moreYou have completely misunderstood the difference.
A 18:9 or 19:9 display, that has Full HD+ resolution, can still show a 16:9 Full HD video in full, just that it will have black borders on the sides. It can also show any app, some with adopted interfaces, and some with black borders.
This one crops apps, in a way that they can't be fully seen. Depending on the app it can even be unusable.
For video, because of the resolution, it could only show a 720p video in native, and then there would be black borders on all sides.

So the display on this is a much bigger issue than the extra wide Full HD compatible screens on other devices.
It isn't bias against BlackBerry, it is just the way it is, this aspect ratio and resolution combo is a bad compromise.

I did some rough calculations, and had BlackBerry gone for a 16:9 screen, with on-sceen buttons and the same width, it would have been about the same size as the S9+ and it would have had a display at approx 5.1". It would not be that much taller than the device as it is.
Although that would have been a big device considering the screen size, it would still be in a form factor that people accept as not too big, considering the sales of such big phones.

I can understand that BlackBerry isn't targeting media consumption consumers. But there are issues with app compatibility, and that is a big issue.

I can't see any real reason for BlackBerry to make the decision they made here. Sure, the aspect ratio is better for reading documents, but if they had used a OLED, they could have completely blacked-out parts of the screen in a special document viewing mode if they actually think that would be so much superior.

Luxor, 16 Jul 2018Dear Blackberry, I think the Priv is hundred times a better... moreThis. The QWERTY is nice but the cost of screen realestate is too much to pay. All physical QWERTY handsets should be Priv type hybrids.. with the best of both worlds.

A new Priv with BB 11 OS... one can only wish.

Dear Blackberry, I think the Priv is hundred times a better phone than this Key 2. People simply cannot work with a small QWERTY phone anymore in this era. It has nice nostalgic feels but it just doesnt work anymore. Full touchscreen is more convenient. Newer generation wont even like or understand this physical keyboard concept. Time to abandon your signature design if you want to have a future. Think of the younger generation instead of targeting older gen. This is not what they want.

How is it as a PHONE??? Does it send clearly when on speaker? Does it echo like Sony, or garble like Samsung?

Again, you complained about the "weird" aspect ratio.
However, you forget that this 6:9 aspect ratio is actually closer to 16:9 than the aspect ratio of those 19:9 phones. Check the maths if you don't believe me.

So either you need to re-do this review and state the aspect ratio is (almost) perfect.
Or you need to go back and re-do all the reviews with the 2017-2018 phones that diverged from the 16:9 aspect ratio.

Otherwise, you guys are inconsistent and have a negative bias against Blackberry. And possibly are shills for Apple/Samsung... which I don't think you are, but you certainly put yourselves towards that category with this attitude.
