I'm a photographer- not a true professional, but i'm not bad. the biggest challenge to getting good shots is aways having a good camera available- hence the saying the best camera to have is the one you have with you.
What amazes me is how unrealistic some peoples expectations are. Come on...it's a camera phone. it's not a DSLR, a micro 3/4, or POS. and if the samples are the quality it produces BEFORE you post process, well, these are pretty good, in my opinion. a little post manipulation, and yeah, I think they will be very good.
Not everyone out there is a pro photog. Most people just want decent pics to email and post on FB, etc. This looks to me to be more than adequate for that. Is it the best phone camera out there? I don't know. But when you consider it IS quite good, and the countless apps for tweaking you can do right on the phone, PLUS you can always post-process on your computer.......Well, this is prob one of the top two reasons I plan to get this phone.

they should compare their iphone 4s camera with the sony ericsson xperia arc S camera. arc s using carl zeiss camera, even the latest nokia N9 also use the carl zeiss. They are the manufacture of the lens manufacture for dslr.

Arc has the same sensor as this. This may be a new revision, but the tech is from Sony.

Ill take a look at the new Iphone since i know my brother will run and buy it like always but for now i dont think ist capable of doing this and my Nokia N8 has been in the market for more than a year and is still the king. these pics are not computer manipulated i only use the N8 editor, thanks for taking a look! http://www.flickr.com/photos/63632890@N08/

You call that stunning? The sky is loaded with noise, and that's on a good sunny day! I can only imagine the noisefest this thing will produce in low light. Anyone praising this camera has obviously never used anything better.

This depends on many factors. Probably it was a professional photographer who took those pictures. Let's wait till the average Joe gets to upload hundreds of pictures to Facebook and Flickr...

And about the dual core thing it only takes the pictures fast not take them better. Camera modules are sensitive things and can't be modified unless the original manufacturer experiments on it for a very long time. So it is the truth believe it or not. I just wanted to tell people that they shouldn't bash Sony like this. No Hard Feelings.

but yes it's good that iPhone use exmor R, i hoped that because i always loved sonyericsson camera photo quality, i owned them too. Now i don't need to miss good camera in iPhone anymore. so this is is very good thing!

The iPhone 4S is FAST it can snap off several shots while other camera phones are still warming up.

Sorry any iPhone lovers but the truth is that these 8mp censors are from Sony and are the same as the one in Xperia ARC and Ray. And who say that Sony Ericsson have bad camera results and the mess up all the detail they are wrong this camera of iPhone 4S is Sony's Exmor R censor. No point in trying to hide defects if you also take away detail. HTC, LG, SE and Sumsing camera phones erase the sh!t out of all detail and then try to compensate with too much sharpening.

Unfortunately, I don't expect to see other models with the same or better camera any time soon. The N8 was a one time only from Nokia.

Stunning??? Why? They're OK, maybe even good, but definitely not "stunning" or revolutionary. A lot of noise is present even in daylight (see the sky on the first photo). Dynamic range is good, but not stunning.
Of course, when you look at the smaller versions on the web site they look stunning, but this happens with every camera. Zomm at 100% and you will see the real quality.
