Anonymous, 21 Jul 2018Nope, they have limited their profit margin to 5% — forever... moreYeah, a company makes a promise of keeping specific profit margin indefinitely and keeps it. Indefinitely. What are you, like, 5?

[deleted post]I suppose that could be it but if so, then why release android one models? They don't come with mi services, or perhaps it's more of a PR move by xiaomi by saying "look at these. We don't hate stock android/android one".

Either way, it's a win for users. Very good specced phone with stock android and guaranteed updates.

P.S. There are some signs of them not caring enough about android one though, judging by the delayed and pulled updates for mi a1 due to bugs.

Walter C. Dornez, 21 Jul 2018Idk, I think we're going to have cheap Xiaomi devices for a... moreYes, it will take them years to get to the place where Samsung is. But once they saturate every major market with their smartphones, they will stop making money at the present rate. At this point the only way to sustain profit growth will be to offer more expensive devices. You can find as many users in your segment of the market before you'll be forced to shift strategy to attract some new ones. And once they establish themselves as a manufacturer of quality products, it'll be okay for them to ask more for their devices. And at some point they will, you'll see. EVERY major company from Asia has come the same way. Oh boy, I still remember how laughable cheap Samsung's feature phones were during pre-Iphone era.

Seeing as how they're fourth in smartphone manufacturing and with Huawei and Samsung starting to take things seriously, it's going to be a long and arduous battle for Xiaomi. It's bang for buck is what made it so popular in the first place

Once they gain global recognition and true worldwide presence, brand will become more expensive. It's unavoidable.

eGlobal Centreal is NOT a UK site, despite looking like one, but rather a Hong Kong company.

eddlang, 21 Jul 2018No, the first listing is 4/32 GB not 64 but still, $230 is ... moreI can give you the reasons.
                              Worst possible build quality
                              Fake promises.
                              No marketing costs
                              No offline selling costs.

No, the first listing is 4/32 GB not 64 but still, $230 is extremely good value for a phone with an SD 660 AND android one; even at $270 it beats almost all rival phones in price/specs.

I still have no idea how xiaomi manages to sell phones for such low prices, unless it's a deliberate tactic to gain market share as fast as possible. I can't think of anything else.

                                  Xiaomi Vs Huawei
                                  Chinese companies on the war.
