YouTube will no longer discriminate videos with different aspect ratios

After being introduced for the mobile YouTube app on Android and iOS, the change has finally made it to the desktop version as well.

How about fix whatever crazy update that made you have precisely place your finger over the selector on the progress bar and drag it in order to go to a different position on the video.

    So when will I be able to zoom on the fancy 2:1 videos on my devices with normal 16:9 screen?
    Also pls get rid of that stupid thing at the bottom on mobile apps, when you minimize the video.

      I don't feel like discriminated before, the content that was uploaded in 4:3 displayed properly (without black bars) when fullscreened on a 4:3 screen.

            Why there is still black on two sides when you watch in full screen if the ratio is not 16:9?

                      Grate.... After so many months of promising the dark ui, having the ios version from the start when announcing it, and hacked versions existing for years..... When are you going to bring the dark version.... Which is not even black.
                      Why does every company struggle so much with such Barrick and simply ui and optimizing elements???????

                        Why is YouTube doing virtue signalling on videos with different aspect ratios? This is not necessary IMO. Can't everyone just shoot videos in HORIZONTAL (More CONTENT) for old Pete's sake?

Sure its n... morei wish people could use the brain when taking videos. how annoying to watch some camera taken tall videos on a wide normal screen. some software provide option to cut off some portion of top and bottom of tall videos, showing a more square like video, some content are lost anyway. how videos are taken, show how is that person.

                            It's not the aspect ratio they discriminate that is the problem, it's what they censor or buffer out as "problematic content".

                              This is basically zoomed in and cropped meaning u could lose some top and bottom image in the process to fill the 16:9 screen.
                              Hopefully they give u a choice to leave the image in it's original aspect. I actually prefer that. Black bars don't bother me. I rather have the whole image.

Sure its not good to see it on most of screens, but on mobile phone it looks just perfect - if you hold phone vertically(what you usually do) and thats what most users got in their possession, not computer, but a phone.
                                Then its the matter of manufacturer - do they want the people to record horizontally? They do not give hw camera shutter what would make you hold the phone as true camera and they either do not give at least option to record video in horizontal ar, even if narrower.

                                  So from what I can see from the comparison, they just made the black bars into white, am I right??

                                    And this is when I will say that 18:9 aspect ratio is better than 16:9 aspect ratio
