https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/... moreWhile I think you may be right that Nokia Corporation may choose to acquire HMD at some point in the future, I'm not sure they ever will.
They didn't want to have the phone division be a part of the main corporation at the start due to the inherent risk to their stocks and the smartphone market being very volatile. With the current arrangement, they reap all of the rewards (They get licensing money from the brand and all of the Nokia Technology patents. They also have the final say in all of the decisions since Nokia are part of the board of directors and have to greenlight all the devices.) with limited risks to the parent corporation and their stocks in case things turn out badly.
Other than trolls no longer being able to pretend that HMD isn't Finnish or isn't the real Nokia, Nokia Corp have no tangible benefits to acquiring HMD right now.

My first device being nokia 3650 a crazy design with the best OS ever made, symbian. That thing was way ahead of it's time. External storage, bluetooth, i could actually play snake in multi player mode via bluetooth with another phone, that could do that of course. Infrared woth that thing i could change tv canals. Games floading mp3 files ogg files. Taksmanager, android still does not have one like that. A real one with process killing and all the cool stuff a pc can do via a task manager. That is why, when i see this kinder here talking so ignorant i just get multisplapp mode with them brains.

Trilulilu, 30 Jul 2018I think that in that race is Nokia, Huawei and ZTE, not Samsung. ik, but some users on here was so sure that samsung was the one who invented 5g and would be the first to use it. and they refused to believe than someone would come before sammy. for sure, nokia will be the first in europe. samsung maybe a year or 2 after the others, just like with their software.

And all... moredid they now ? if i remember correctly, se and nokia was on the market with smarter phones, years before apple even thought about iphone. and yes, the actual smart phone was a phone that could more than a regular one. when the phone took over the pda, or could do math statistics, video, pictures, record, bluetooth, ir controller, use more apps than preinstalled.

Nokia buys siemens and followed by Alcatel Lucent. Most of the reason because it has to beat global enemies Huawei moreover in the declining market for 4G, and strengthen its portofolio to deliver end to end solution to operator. Their customer mostly only carriers operator around the world, and really small subset in enterprise area because of limited portofolios. While on the other hand, the most beneficial secitor is enterprise, that's why their profit drop in recent years.

Jean-Francois Baril is Founder and Director of HMD Global since 2016 when the company was established to create a new generation of Nokia-branded devices. HMD, is a Finnish mobile phone company, made up of the mobile phone business that Nokia had sold to Microsoft.
Foxconn is indeed chinese (specifically Taiwanese but factory in mainland China while HQ in Taipei) who not only make Nokia but also Apple devices, Sony, Blackberry, Dell, Huawei, Xiaomi, Acer, Google, HP, Amazon, Toshiba and so on. They are basically a factory in China that make all electronics in the world.

Now all network providers are purchasing technology for their network. All the mobile phone companies will have to later buy this technology from Nokia to use 5G in their mobiles including HMD who makes Nokia Branded mobiles. So next time you buy a 5G mobile, remember you are using Nokia Technology.

The technology of 5G is developed by Nokia and is being sold to Network providers worldwide. All mobile companies will have to later develop / design mobile phones that can use 5G network including HMD.
