And secondly you cannot compare Apples to Androids. Firstly, Apple spends a lot of money on marketing, and that money gets budgeted into the handset sale. Not to mention all the Apple Stores, the working staff, all of which go to provide the best customer service in the industry. And then there's things like designing the hardware (they don't subcontract it out like some OEMs), making the accessories, building the internal processors and motherboards, creating the Operating System, maintaining the Operating System for many years, making custom Applications, and maintaining their own AppStore, and owning many content services, and finally making their own monetary division for Credit Card, iTunes card, ApplePay.
If any OEM started to make an iPhone competitor without using Android and without using Google Services and with a massive .... they will run costs that run into the Hundred Billions. And so the cost of such a device would certainly be higher than an iPhone, yet it would be slower, less pretty, less developed, less adopted, less marketed, less supported etc etc.
This is the "trap" that many Android OEMs fall in. They need to conquer a niche, instead of taking a big chunk of the pie.

I'm really quite excited to see this one come onto market! A lot of the concepts seem cool so I'm curious to see how much of them come into reality!
Either way given the specs $999 with headphones isn't bad. I imagine the Without Headphone Price likely won't be much better, I can assure you they are bundling the headphones at slightly above cost to help move the phones, not the other way around

This is much cheaper than I expected! 1200-1500€ was my expectation, so this is really cheap...
Interesting to see this and other "game" phones compared to each others. What phone can really keep up in long gaming session without throttling too much...

People don't want this stupid headset... they want all the PHONE's ACCESSORIES that you showed off to be thrown in the box, and they want it equal or BELOW the expensive Samsung S9 price.

Does Asus still allow the bootloader to be unlocked on it's devices?
Fair play to them for going for such an ambitious device, few of my colleagues are interested in this phone.
The should buttons and the cherry picked chipsets are great additions.

Sammy is the Apple of android.
Not all of them are eally sold but mostly pushed as an upgrade to existing phone contracts. Especially in its home country. Where it is usually hip to ditch current one to get the newest shiny product.

i saw one streamer using the razor phone which is equivalent to the ROG phone
