Experienced on curve edge screen phone (s7 edge). It was useless and difficult to use. I thought it was too fragile and difficult to use. Once it was dropped on the ground, it was high cost for screen replacement. I planned to buy mate 20 pro but need to re-think on the curved display.

I was also hoping that the Mate series would have kept the individuality, but unfortunately they have also turned into bi-copycats as well (notch and curved screen). Let alone the practicalities of a flat screen as mentioned before. Shame really..
If I want a curved screen, why not buy a Samsung? If I want a notch, I can buy one of the plethora of Chinese copycats of which some are really good and cheaper.
Let's hope that the likes of HTC and Sony do stay alive (please don't start again), together with the beautiful Mix 2S (and Mix3 coming soon hopefully on the same design. but doubt it).

if the mate 20 pro has a notch am not buying it. they need to be leaders not followers. can anyone tell me the real use case for a notch. also if i wanted a screen with curved edges ill get a note 9. i love huawei phones but this notch deal is really getting out of hand. think ill hold onto my mate 10 pro a little longer smt!

First of all Essential PH-1 and Sharp Aquos were two of the very first phones to introduce a notch. Apple followed suit.
The first phone with a fingerprint scanner was the Pantech GI100 and that was 14 years ago (feature phone) while three years later the Toshiba G500 and G900 were the first smartphones to feature a fingerprint YET I have heard quite a few Apple clowns claiming that Apple was the first to feature a fingerprint scanner.
Apple also imitated the notification panel and widgets from Android as well as the smartwatch from Samsung and the rest. I could go on and on.
Apple was Apple when the ingenious Steve Jobs was running the show.

Normal people don't hate the "notch" because there is no notch. The earpiece and sensors don't cut into the main screen. The screen is extended around them to make use of all the available space. It's just a logic and efficient way of making use of all the wasted space on the front of a phone.
Apple was right. Again. Just like it's right about gestures. And that's why google and the rest follow suit. They know who's got the brains in the IT industry. Everything you see in the phone you own is inspired from Apple. Everything. Both hardware and user interface.

Not a big fan of the design language, but I hope that what it looks already outdated on the outside would be compensated by innovations on the inside of the phone. Huawei and Samsung, the only brands that make practical innovations. I hope that there will be two variants of the Mate to have different choices...

I think that the device looks great. Apart from the notch, the bezels are thin all around... Better design than the iPhone X for sure

If it is true, edged screen + notch would be a very ugly combination. Many people changed to the Mate series because of flat screen. Please Huawei, keep that flat screen!

Notch is just a tech limtiation that was seen on iPhone X. It adds nothing to design or user experience and infact only hinders it. But since Apple did it and marketed it well, people thought wow that's cool, and Chinese manufacturers started aping it and created people like u who thinks having a notch is some how better than not having one.
