Doogee S70 is a rugged gaming phone that will be crowdfunded

21 August 2018
The last time a phone was crowdfunded, it didn’t do so well.

Why are people crowdfunding for a company that lies to its' consumers and puts in fake cameras?

This is NOT 2009 or 2010 experimenting already succeeded ideas in Mobility space. Crowd funds inherently failure oriented since there are lots unknowns for the players getting into trouble too soon. Already, users have some standard (VERY HIGH FOR NEWCOMERS) expectations in a far matured market. Getting hold of good vendors at competitive price points, getting support and service channels established in a reliable fashion will be huge tasks. OnePlus probably adopted more innovative methods to get its foothold in a comfortable fashion. Investors won't wait for too long for returns!

Qualcomm are happy throwing their chips nilly willy. Why do you think a lot of Chinese devices are flooded with the QSD 625 SoC? They're more than happy to supply their licence and chipset to any company, even the "shady ones", as long as there are no sanctions (ahem ZTE).

The only reason Doogee doesn't include a Snapdragon chipset is the price. Why should the OEM pay an outsource company $80 for the SoC, when they can get a local one for $15...? Sure the performance and efficiency and radios and software are not going to be as good/prepared... but when you're calculating sales in the millions, that's a big difference to their bottom-line. And its especially risky (financially) if they are not able to recoup their costs.

Don't believe me, just ask LeeCo.

They could price this "Mobile device" at €50 and still I wouldn't buy it, due to the MediaTek. It has no support for the Lineage and other ROMs I would want after the support has stopped.

Doogee CAN'T use Snapdragon chips as it doesn't have a contract with qualcomm. Even me with my team had to go to Qualcomm EMEA to get a lisence to make me and my team's dream True) so the best chip Doogee can use is Mediatek X30. Or grab the Exynos 8895 from Samsung. ^^;

I see more innovation in this 3rd-rate "dodgy" Chinese company than in some mainstream mobile companies. So kudos to you, Doogee.

The best part of this idea is:
                                - GamePad included IN THE BOX
                                - Large 5,500mAh battery
                                - Great IP69K water-proofing
                                - Good Metal-and-Rubber durability/ruggedness (also MIL-spec)

The dealbreakers in the execution are:
                                - Poor Helio P30 chip (not efficient/not fast)
                                - Poor Mediatek SoC (no community support/custom rom/bad updates)
                                - Half-a-gamepad is stupid, need a joystick/action buttons/shoulder button for Right-Hand
                                - No front-firing speakers (who wants poor audio during gaming?)
                                - Device way too wide (fix that aspect ratio to 16:9 to make it more compact)
                                - Too thick for pockets (the rear has Glass + Metal + Rubber... not good)
                                - GamePad too bulky for pockets (no need for the backplate)
                                - The name? C'mon, doggie is not a word that excites people nor is the bland "s70" moniker.

                                How to fix this device:
                                - Use QSD 845 chip (efficient and fast)
                                - Use unlockable bootloader and AndroidOne (great support/open for community)
                                - Have round two-half GamePads (eg mini PS Move) that attach like Nintendo Switch
                                - Front-firing stereo loudspeaker (at least Pixel 2 quality, better yet ZTE Axon 7, best is Razer Phone)
                                - Use 16:9 aspect ratio, and use SAMOLED-1080p for better performance and longer game time. No need for edged-sides, curved corners, or notches. Don't fix what ain't broken.
                                - Make the rear with a 7000-series scratch-resistant Aluminium unibody (see OnePlus 5). Make the device sturdy/no flex. That way its good daily driver, and not overkilled like the Bobcat phones of Oversized Otterbox cases. Forget about rear-fingerprint reader and wireless charging. Focus on Fast-Charging and front in-display fingerprint scanner instead
                                - The round two-half GamePads attach to ends separately like the Nintendo Switch.... now the GamePads are pocketable too!
                                - Name? Depends on which Chinese Company, see examples:
Nokia 8.1 . Moto Z4 Power. Lenovo Z6 Play. ASUS RoG. HTC U13 Pocket. Huawei Honor X. Vivo Nex Game. Oppo F10+. OnePlus 6R. ZTE Axon 9-Max. Leeco GT4. Xiaomi MiGame. Meizu M7 Pro.
