Weekly poll: Xiaomi Pocophone F1, how hot is it?

26 August 2018
There's a history  of $300 flagships that shook up the market. Is the Poco the latest chapter in that or a dud?

FreezeGame, 27 Aug 2018No thanks. A device cannot be considered a Flagship Killer ... moresir, this phone is not really for you. i dont really know why you comment rubbish when this phone is beating out your current phone and keeps on talking about flagship this flagship that.

it is not in the flagship category.
it is not priced like a flagship.
it is as apeedy as a flagship.
it function as a phone, can make calls and texts,
have multimedia, can game like a flagship.
and i think it will not be available in your country so why bother arguing.
just stick to your samesung or iphone xxs whatever we really dont care. this phone is not made for you.
it is made for practical people. not for aesthetic-but useless-features-loving people that changes their phones every 3months because their parents can afford it.

I'm really loving the price tag for such spec. The only thing that makes it 50-50 for me is the fvckin notch. Hate it so much. My 5 plus is due for an upgrade and this phone, this phone really hittin the sweet spot but that damn notch. damn.

FreezeGame, 27 Aug 2018Comments like this shows what fans of this device are drawn... moreDidn't you read the phone review? classic for people to talk shit without knowing anything, display even if its LDC is actually pretty good, NFC is missing yeah... but it is only useful for some people, mediocre camera? didn't you actually read too, camera is not bad, it is not on par with P20 pro, however it is useful, not bad actually, I remember a time when not even one device or thing was water resistant, it wasn't too hard, just keep your electronic stuff out of the water and done, I doubt even if device have IP rating you throw it into the sink on purpose, device is priced right, you can buy 3 Pocophone which is a fine flagship, for the price of a Note 9, this is why Samsung and Apple are losing market share, they don't offer this kind of bargain, for this price what do you get from Samsung, em... a A6+, which have for $300 price, mediocre processor, yeah it may have AMOLED, but anyone with a bit of brain would take the Poco. After all it may be a Chinese Brand indeed, however you don't get to #4 smartphone producer in the world by doing shitty phones, so I wouldn't worry too much about build quality.

FreezeGame, 27 Aug 2018Comments like this shows what fans of this device are drawn... moreYou may be right, the use of plastic and LCD is a major drawback. But looks at that colling system and more, look at the price point.
Indeed it's not as good as a oneplus 6, or a huawei P20 Pro but for the price, it's seriously not bad.
This phone is for gaming enthusiasts and i would love having one like that in my drawers to play PUBG.
And look at that huge battery!!!

                  If it's HOT or NOT?
The only downside it's it's plastic back and LCD screen.
Make it 350 and put metal and Amoled and it will shine
Everything else it's Hot as F$%K

Anonymous, 27 Aug 2018It doesn't even have an amoled display an Amoled display isn't the best type of displays or isn't a measurement of quality at all !! i prefer LCD over amoled , LCD is more realistic , amoled's contrast makes everything weird to me , and amoled has short life span , so don't consider anything other than amoled is worse , because simply ... it isn't :)

They just made sure it looks great on paper. Big storage plus big RAM plus SD845 plus notched screen plus battery and there you have it. But nothing else is noteworthy, while there is a ton of other stuff in a phone that play a determinant role in the quality and the experience of a device

OwnFix3, 27 Aug 2018All these burning comments are from those who paid $700 for... moreComments like this shows what fans of this device are drawn to. The Snapdragon 845 does not make the device anything special. Much more is needed.

With the Xiaomi Pocophone F1, consumers will enjoy:

                        Low build quality
                        Mediocre LCD display
                        Mediocre dual-camera setup
Mediocre low-light photos due to lack of OIS
No EIS for the 4K videos
                        No water-proofing
                        No NFC
                        USB-C 2.0

Consumers who spend more money on significantly superior devices with the same SoC will undoubtedly enjoy a better ROI, and overall experience. There's a huge difference.

mr.cool, 27 Aug 2018Huawei is hard to get popularity because of their own chip ... moreHuawei are #3 in the world and #1 in the Chinese market ! :P

All because of their own processor line which allows them to reduce costs since they use their own processors.

AnonD-558092, 27 Aug 2018Or someone is salty because it doesn't know what quality is... moreIt's a ratio between price and quality. They lower *both* quality and price, but because of the law of diminishing returns (it's actually law of marginal utility, but everyone wrongly knows it by diminishing returns), the price is dropped faster than the quality (hence a better price/quality ratio).

That's basic economics and the whole point I was originally replying to.

To sell it at such a price they have to cut corners. They won't sell the device at a price that doesn't cover the expenses. What did they cut on for such a price? Quality. Blind people over specs, skimp on quality.

FreezeGame, 27 Aug 2018No thanks. A device cannot be considered a Flagship Killer ... moreThere is more to the market than just flagships, also just because I make enough money to buy a USD$1000+ flagship it does *not* mean that is the smartest thing to do. Simply put, having a very good USD$300 phone that can trade some blows with flagships is good for everyone: (1) you get more choice at different price-points, (2) main-stream flagships now have to be priced more sensibly, (3) the most luxurious flagships need to get even more luxurious and innovative.

Everybody wins, high GDP or not, healthy personal finances or not.
