Weekly poll: Xiaomi Pocophone F1, how hot is it?

26 August 2018
There's a history  of $300 flagships that shook up the market. Is the Poco the latest chapter in that or a dud?

why does the battery not removable if the back cover is plastic? that is a loss of a possible great feature. i would have am extra 4000mah battery as spare. that would be epic.

No thanks. A device cannot be considered a Flagship Killer when corners have been cut to significant extent. The truth of the matter is that the Pocophone F1 is severely lacking when compared to true flagships.

Pitting the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 against genuine flagships like the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 or the upcoming LG V40 ThinQ, it fails miserably. Merely sharing the same chipset and RAM does not make any device a flagship, nor does synthetic benchmarks. Several other features (hardware and software based) are needed to complete the total package.

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and LG V40 ThinQ are significantly more money, but both devices make day to day life much easier, and offers/does far more than the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 could ever achieve.

Let's be honest here. The Pocophone F1 is only hot to consumers living in developing or underdeveloped countries with a low GDP, and struggling economies. Stop pretending that it's a well rounded device which integrates people's lives and livelihoods. It doesn't.

Rafeee2, 27 Aug 2018Using in-house chips helps keep the prices down, especially... moreDoes it really? Research and Development costs are usually far higher than Production costs, meaning you have to sell as many chips as you possibly can to offset the R&D costs. Who else is making phones with Kirin? -- No one. That means Huawei alone has to foot for every single expense incurred in supporting their chips (read maintain drivers, bug-fixes and ensure compatibility with future Android versions). That's a huge risk and big expense right there.

harwey, 26 Aug 2018What are you on about,mate?Op6 is a very good phone,no doub... moreThey all start like that slowly increase the prices year after year, meanwhile, Flagship ones with its unrealistic prices may make these mobiles far more attractive for the price, eventually unless they also want to play Huawei Pro 20 sort of game which they will lose unless they offer something other flagship cannot....

Vonarian, 27 Aug 2018and XZ2 has better camera and... design.Seems not a lot people care, based on sales. Still you get more memory, battery and impact endurance, and thats compared to xz line, what about xa then?
Smartphones on all levels today lags in right pricing and style if compared to the past, bringing premium phone for entry level or midrange is what I missed. Brands got too comfortable with sales and forgot to innovate. Thx huawei and xiaomi for bringing premium features on cheap.

Man this is hotten that a potato crisped on the sand of a Venus planet :-)

Though I cannot praise it a lot without real performance tests, comparing pure hw to even flagships is enough to see that you can get more premium style and internals you may not even find in some other flagship brands(kevlar, memory size, battery capacity).
As I see it new premium priced flagships offer more features, but if its enough features and for right price, they will find out soon as for a lot of people this will be enough money to spend in an year. With new one coming next with newest chip? Why not...

Anonymous, 27 Aug 2018Nope! XZ2 is gloriously free from notch!and XZ2 has better camera and... design.

It's not bad, but the poor audio quality combined with the notch is a deal-breaker.

"The Snapdragon 845 chipset, the 4,000mAh battery and the new S Pen. Two out of three isn't a bad score for the Pocophone F1."

And no one even actually needs a pen :D

Does POCO F1 have a removable back panel?

No water protection and a bloated firmware? Stuff like this is exactly what allows Samsung and others sell their phones for crazy price: the competition is restarted, this phone being a good example.

Look at these comments! How people are complaining... No NFC, No IP rating??? You all are those people who want Note 9 at the Price of Nokia 3310.
