I'm already enjoying Pie on my Essential Phone. I was actually going to look into the OnePlus 6T once it arrives on my network in October. The red OP6 is sexy hot as hell. Then I remembered 6T could be too tall and I hate glass backs.
If there was one Chinese brand to choose, it would be OnePlus. Obviously for the price and it uses Oxygen OS which isn't different from stock Android. Just stick to Pixel if you can't wait for updates.

top tip for oneplus users ( been using them since the opo now on op6)
never update the software as soon as it's released, always bugs..wait for a couple weeks or a month then check forums and update accordingly.
