Thanks Samsung.

    A late reply here.
Remember there is a fairly easy way to get rid of Bixby (button or no button), see e.g.
    https://eskerahn.dk/wordpress/?p=2462
All it requires is a USB cable and a pc/mac, no rooting or stuff like that required.

They will allow to disable the button, but allowing the reconfiguration of it for a useful feature... NO WAY.

Anonymous, 04 Sep 2018Thats what happen when you get locked into a poor ecosystem... moreWhen I go into maps, it asks me if I want to turn on device Location, if I select Cancel then it continues to the World map, where I can see traffic, A to B journeys etc, with no GPS.
The only app permission that I allow is Location which is anonymous (if you are signed out of Google services), which I only use if I'm driving.

kevinmcmurtrie, 04 Sep 2018Never believe what Samsung says. At least in the older v... more"Samsung also isn't updating the unlocked S9 phones like they promise on their web site.".

Samsung does update their unlocked S9 phones, the problem is likely to be your carrier (especially in the U.S.).
If you bought your S9 in a different continent then measures may need to be taken, contact your carrier & Samsung.

Samsung is telling people that there's no warranty coverage for all the phones where the camera glass pops out.
          Read it: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S9/ct-p/galaxy-s9

Yeah I followed your link to the S9 community forums & couldn't find anything about camera glass popping out.
In any case this would be covered by Samsung's 24 month warranty on all of it's phones, budget to flagship.

Kiyasuriin, 04 Sep 2018Sweet~! Allow Remapping it too and it's perfect!Yes, I was going to say allow remapping of the Bixby button to the users preference, turning it into a smart button.

How people can still paying 1000$ for this phone. this bixby button cost at least 100$ on the price. Good luck in few months to fully charge the battery, it will take at least 8h. https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/GalaxyNotePhones/thread-id/14814/page/1
I hope that note 9 owner can still sit, it might be painful

                Great decision.

It's good that Samsung is not forcing their technology down our throats, unlike Apple. It would be even awesome if they allowed us to remap the button, towards camera for example.

good, samsung , because its useless button that you made . but suddenly you just suggest that's useless ,

kevinmcmurtrie, 04 Sep 2018Never believe what Samsung says. At least in the older v... moreYes, they always tell you to reboot, no matter what the problem is. Clearly none of them have no clue, and nothing ever get fixed.

To add to your post, go further back in time and consider the lies about the region locks, they replaced one lie with another and in the end the users actually caved in and stopped complaining, even if the "fix" didnt work at all, Samsung said to make 5 minutes call with a local simcard first, lets say Europe, then one could go to Asia or USA and use local simcards there. The lies worked, and lets admit it, it never would have worked on Apple users, when Apple say its like this and that it really IS like that. And by the way Apple never had a region lock, we PAY for our phones and should of course be allowed to use them everywhere in the world, everyone else does, Samsung users dont care about errors and restrictions as usual, they are happily ignorant.

How far back does the Samsung user ignorance date? All the way, even back to Corby. Some Corbys had a errors where they could not make more than a 1 second call with some SIMs and then had to be rebooted (see, rebooting was always the preferred solutions to samsung errors) before another call could be made, the affected users still said "its the worlds best phone!". Didnt care, 2018 and nothing has changed.
Then samsungs big breakthrough in the real smartphone market in 2010 with the Galaxy S. It was their first inhouse own design SoC, with an A8 core and various things. No apps worked 100% since it wasnt compatible with other Android chips (Qualcomm was by far the most common at the time, and they worked) and most developers had to rewrite their apps to work with the Galaxy S. But the SoC had many errors, the most severe was a GPS that was completely off, people complained loudly and samsung outed a patch, then paid spammers to post that it worked and voila, everyone said it worked, but the patch fixed NOTHING, and i kept my Galaxy S till this day and can prove it: The GPS was never fixed and the users didnt care. 2018 and still the same, they must be used to it already.

Anonymous, 04 Sep 2018poor samsung - copy and fail - again copy and fail - lol Dont be so rude dude, its called NONWORKING copy and fail.

The best thing about it is that samsung users have 2 severely flawed assistants, they must have concluded that 2 wrongs makes one right.

Thats what happen when you get locked into a poor ecosystem that cannot even decide what direction to take, its a complete mess of useless services. Say what you want about Apple but its an open and well laid out ecosystem where users have great control over their devices and personal information. In a Samsung you cannot even use maps if you refuse to share your position that can be shared with third parties. Just try, go to settings and remove position sharing.

And why does Samsung force this Bixby thing to people and when realising people don't prefer it, now they offer option to disable it??! It doesn't make sense, why waste the resources to put that button there in the first place!!

Bixby button when remapped is the best hardware button in the planet, love it on my note8.

Bixby button was also one of the things I hated the most about my S8.
Not only that Bixby itself is a bloatware but they even made hardware piece of bloatware and are having wars with people who even go as far as making apps to correct this.
90% of the people (myself included) aren't using any virtual assistant, yet their phones come with 2...

They claim that they listen to people when they aren't removing headphone jack or putting a notch on their display - yet everyone is screaming at them to remove that Bixby button... and Bixby is still here...

AnonD-771260, 04 Sep 2018Its acctually not so bad. I'm personally not using it, but ... moreWhile it's not so bad but you pay huge bucks and at least they should give the buyer options to change it to something else not just disable it and have it decorated on the unit. That's really useless in my opinion. While some people use it I don't use it and it'll be better if I can remap this useless Bixby.

What we need is Samsung to allow Remap of the Bixby Key in countries outside of the USA and S.Korea, where the Bixby functionality is a pain to use and we end up using Google Assistant anyways..
