I can't even imagine the returns on this for not folding flat, for breakage, etc. Folding phones other than flip type phones seem like a disaster.

Wake me up when Corning announces foldable Gorilla Glass. I'm not holding my breath.

Until then, folding OLED screens scratch far too easily & won't stand up to the rigors of daily use.

Device for guinea pigs. Think Note Edge in 2014. Like Apple, Samsung will not get it right that first generation. Even the first iPhone was extremely flawed before its iconic release.

I want to see see a device that can fold multiple times. Not a render that looks like a flip phone that can't close properly. I think foldable displays will work better on smartwatches. Do the slap bracelet from the early-1990's.

i cant wait to use this phone with burn screen on the middle and other part of the screen will follow. that is the unique feature of samsung you will always be having a burn to their devices. the longer hours you will use their device the faster you will be getting the burn. samsung oled panels always like that. people will still buying it act like their blind into it.

Symbian was a smartphone OS and Nokia made "foldable" Symbian smartphones. Yes they were clam shell form factor.but they are still foldable smartphones so to speak.

What this race is for is to be the first to market with a foldable screen, not smartphone.

Realistic1, 04 Sep 2018One question - "Why tho?" I would't want a folding phone... moreIt may be expensive technology, but the earlier they release it, then the cheaper it would be over time. The best use for it would be to handle the size of phones these days. Phones are still getting big, so it would be nice to fold them up.

There is clear benefit to the end user with a driverless car. It means you do less.

With a foldable phone you have to do more. Unfold it every time you want to use it.

It is not a practical design.

And if tablet screen size in phone form factor is what you're after here then this isn't a foldable phone, but rather a foldable tablet.
