Ming-Chi Kuo: Apple won't use in-display Touch ID anytime soon

05 September 2018
Apple is happy with its Face ID and its customers are too.

FACE ID is worst of Apple plans to catalogue all its clients like rats. Is it really convenient to secure your phone with face??? No it is not secure at all, many people has similar faces, but none has same fingerprints, sure I clearly said obvious winner here.

@anonymous really? I use airpods even when I use iPhone 5s and happy with it. It’s very compact and yet very useful. I’ve never worry about charging, because the case is small enough to fit my pocket, fast enough to charge my airpods. My point is, it’s very good replacement for earpods. Forget about messy cable. Think about it. It’s 2018. The bluetooth handsfree is introduced years before. Why complaining about missing headphone jack?
Moreover, this’s something that apple does: driving customers, not in reverse. People must get used to it or switch to another brand. And apple has done it since years ago, not just for iphone, but for the other products. Remember when its first launch, iPhone doesn’t use physical keyboard, in contrast with blackberry which is popular at that time. And now people already got used to it. And I believe people will forget about missing headphone jack. And I think some of android phone follow this way. Some of them start merging audio cable with usb type C. Will they complain about it? My suggestion is get used to it or create your own phone.

"Apple doesn't trust in-display fingerprint technology enough to put in its iPhones anytime soon."

I don't trust Apple enough to put my money on its iPhones anytime soon.

FaceID is their "signature" biometric system these days.
It's a big No No for them to go back.

AnonD-731363, 06 Sep 2018Man Nobody return its just one phone. Stop living in illi... moreStop "lying" to yourself. We Android Users / Truthers are not living in illusions or delusions. Jack ain't over, period. Many audio devices, even if it is not a smartphone / tablet, do come with the jack as STANDARD. For Huawei's case, it is Mate 20 Pro that brought back the jack unlike Mate 10 Pro. For HTC's case, it is U12 Life that brought back the jack unlike U11 Life. These show that manufacturers felt that jack-less is illogical and anti-consumer.

you really don't have a clue what your talking abut.

this is copy paste from another site:
"Apple planned for the 10th Anniversary iPhone for a long time. The Phone of the Future had to be pretty much all display on its front, so Apple was hell-bent on putting an “edge-to-edge” OLED screen on the iPhone X. With no more “chin” space at the bottom of the phone, the Touch ID button was out. But a source with knowledge of the iPhone X development process told me Apple still worked for months to integrate a fingerprint sensor directly into the device’s display.

By last spring, however, it become clear that the in-display fingerprint sensor wasnÂ’t going to work. The sensors in the prototype iPhone XÂ’s were generating too many false negatives; that is, keeping legitimate users out of their phones.

ThatÂ’s when Apple decided to rely solely on a front-facing laser system for biometric authentication, my source said. When it came time to manufacture the iPhone X, though, the Face ID system presented Apple with the same false-negatives problem it saw months earlier with the fingerprint sensor. That was the reason for the dearth of iPhone Xs around the deviceÂ’s launch November 3: Apple had trouble getting enough working Face ID subsystems from its suppliers to meet demand."

Apple didn't put in-display fingerprint sensor because of timing. They want that tecnology for the X and they could not have it ready for it. Chinese vendors had more 6month/1 year to develop it better. So, plan A was dead, plan B - notch was up.

I will never buy a phone with notch. Not from Apple not from any other vendor. It's ugly, it's not useful for nothing. It's just laziness in it's pure form. We have bezels for 10 years. I can live with them 1 or 2 more years till they figure it out to have a proper bezeless phone. If its not ready don't know why they release "beta" products...worst...people are buying them.

Apple will likely never return TouchID because they are already in too deep in their claims that FaceID is more secure than TouchID (when in reality fingerprint is more secure than facial recognition).

If they returned TouchID, they're basically eating their own words and are implicitly admitting that FaceID is less secure than TouchID.

AnonD-731363, 05 Sep 2018Yeah customers are happy. They ditched jack and customers... moreWRONG. Customers are NOT HAPPY that 3.5mm jack is ditched. I have seen in some Apple forums and they COMPLAIN about it. Even their included dongle doesn't work very well so as to "force" them to pay for AirPods. As for you wishing all other brands to ditch the jack, you can KEEP DREAMING in a MILLION years although some manufacturers have ditched. BUT HTC and Huawei had brought it back because it is LOGICAL, get this in your head when you don't even bother to read them.

You are being one-sided here again. Let us Android Truthers / Users show you the TRUTH. Please wake up and smell the coffee.

With this, that marks the end of in display touch before it even has a chance. Android manufacturers do not have the guts to back expensive technology if Apple does not use it. Too scared to stand out.

Only Razer seems to be happy to be an original player in the Android clone crowd.

AnonD-546724, 06 Sep 2018You're right, but if you want to put aside every phone that... moreThis have to go way back to the first real copyKing, Samsung. The signature home button copy. (Of course Android do not need this style.. they uses the 3 button keys)

Copying raise Samsung's status in the Android world to unknown heights, silently overtaking HTC.Its status was soo high, even legal action against it barely dent its profits. All analysts and business saw this trend and thus they decided to go in, while offering it cheaper and cheaper.

Even HTC saw it, they did something different from Samsung, remove removable battery, copy the unibody style and remove sd slot like iPhones. But it backfired on them.

Apple have both its software and hardware in its control.. So it can tweak its style and tailor fit the OS to run it, it has ZERO competition in the iOS environment. They do things pretty much their own way. I believe the notch is a signature of iPhone, they can engineer a smaller notch if they choose, but its more an icon as the home button is.

What does Android makers have? Only hardware..Software they can only tweak that much, the rest they have to eat what Google is providing them. They have competition from every other android phone makers who uses more or less the same hardware . The only difference? Style look and cost.. thats the only thing they can tweak.. so? Add one or more camera modules and brag about it.. make a bigger screen.. and brag about it.. or make a smaller notch.. and brag about it.. making its fanboys compare oranges to apples.

And in Android its a hard to please market.. its users are fragmented same as its OS.
                                1. You have the notch hater
                                2. You have the jack lover
                                3. You have the curve screen hater
                                4. You have the sd slot lover
                                5. You have "the poor man who wants iPhone but cannot get it" person.
                                6. You have the Apple hater

So you asking, are there people buying these copy phones? Yes enough to earn profits, but do not count on generation 2 or generation 3 of these phones.. its one time only, once the hype dies down, they move on to the new styles.

And why they copy? Because thats the only way to stay ahead of other Android phone makers. CPU / Camera / Screen / Features.. more or less the same to each other..
