Waiting for Yi to do something about it, their 4K+, despite already and is still great in the latest firmware, is getting a bit older. Weirdly enough, their latest offering is a low cost one.

Toolittle, too late. GoPro is trying to reinvent itself as a sw company, as it has already lost the hardware race. Sony has the sensors, YI wipes the floor with Hero on price/performance.

they're not that bad, but, you can get a 4k action cam for 200, people wont care even if the gopro is great at 1080
and for 400+, its probably fine but the sonys are amazing and have been there a long time...
gopro went for a nap and didnt exactly come back with a bang. the 6 wasnt all that interesting, neither is the 7. they're just good, but not "omg i need it good"
gp1,2,3 were the best, at the time.

Prices have finally come down. But their cams haven't really improved substantially in the last 3 iterations.
You could buy last year's GoPros or Yi4k+ and you wouldn't miss anything. You would obviously save money
