U guys are complaining about added features? Having options are better. The same peoplecomplain about getting glass backs ( we lost removable batttery because of u guys! Waterproofing with plastic backs was possible!) when most will put it on a case anyways. I rather get a bunch of cameras if it has a possible purpose than lose stuff, like the headphone jack that apple started.

Well Samsung is on Attack mode :) considering A7 2018 is still gimmicky, cause depth camera does nothing else, consider as it is dual camera wide and regular

I won’t buy a phone unless it has 5 cameras on the back because.. I’m retarded and like to waste my money on things which are equally retarded.
I think some people should just consider getting a proper camera. But then again, who these days [with money] exercises common sense.

OMG - there are so much space left on the back. They could have added at least 64 cameras.
Samsung got the rumor that Apple will introduce 3 lenses - so they made 4 cameras. Samsung quality matters - not quantity. Pathetic android sheep.

smartphone cameras have already gone a long way, not so long ago autofocus in such small cameras was something deemed as nearly impossible, not because of sensor, but because it was extremely hard to make the focus lens group move back and forth, in such a way that the movement was stable, and that the axis would remain perfectly straight during the movement.
adding the zooming function would require to add another set of zooming lenses, in the whole assembly... and as you may immagine, in this set of lenses at least two of the elements will have to be able to move (varifocal).
this puts another strain on both the specs (the lens will need to be thicker) and technical aspects (controlling 2, or more, movement, while retaining a perfectly straight axis and smooth movement, is not an easy feat, even in larger dslr lenses).
in the past they tried two different approaches to solve this problem.
the first one involved classic lenses made of glass, shaped in a double covex/concave shape on one side and plain on the other side, two of such lenses were paired together, with the plain sides facing each other, the lenses then were to slide up and down, thus attaining a "single" lenses with a wide range of shapes.
the second approach used a liquid lens (made of mineral oil), which was shaped by an electrical field.
both the approaches proved not feasible or simply the technology is not mature enough yet.
with multiple cameras you could have each camera limited to a small range of focal length, thus requiring a limited movement for the focus lenses, keeping the thickness in check and reducing the aberrations.
