A good decision, actually. The so-called "Master AI" wasn't really smart. All it did was dial up the saturation (extremely blue skies and green grass) and punch up the colours and the contrast. It was never even close to a true depiction of reality.

I found so called "AI" on cheaper Honor smartphones much more subtle and eye-pleasing to me than the one found on P20 series. Or Huawei should just give us an option to adjust the degree of saturation in Master AI.

In this regard it is still far better than Note 9 which is considered to be one of the best phone camera in the market.

You've either not used the new phones or you need a new pair of spectacles.

Only Apple's auto AI algorithms truly enhances phography. All Android implementions are disappointing... often the AI makes the photos worse.
Also, the Chinese (and Koreans) have never been good at software, They do crank out beautiful hardware these days, I'll admit that.

Even if beauty mode was turned down to zero, selfie photos still came out with smoothened facial skin which removed all the blemishes! Elsewhere though, Huawei's AI functioned more like artificial ignorance that resulted to artificial images rather than artificial intelligence.

No no no...instead of disable it, just improved it by not looking over processed. Especially the 'blue sky' & 'greenery' scene detection, it should change to auto HDR such as 'HDR-backlit' & 'HDR-landscape' without oversaturate the colors. I find the AI scene detection very helpful sometimes, should just improve it instead disable it as default. Leave the oversaturate & overprocessed look inside the existing Vivid & Smooth color option only, its more convenient that way.
I dont know if it just me, but usually an award winning photography photo looks exactly like the overprocessed AI in huawei's does lol (heavy photoshopped editing)

Huawei is at least 3-4 years behind Sony in scene recognition algorithms.They will catch up sooner than later,but who in the right mind tough its good idea to name it AI in the first place?!?

They are probably just trying to differentiate p20 phone series from mate 20 series. So if the AI is on by default on mate devices and off on p20 series it might seem like the camera improved lol. Or I am a retard.
