Hey, nothing wrong with Marshmallow, I still have my HTC One M8 running it just fine. All apps still work and supported by developers, plus with only 2GB of RAM the phone still multitask very efficiently. It is my back up to my "daily driver" OG Pixel running PIE of course.

By the way, my OnePlus 6 got the Pie update last week, so it is not just Pixels that have it!

Love the Community, 30 Sep 2018I thought Project Treble will automatically send Oreo out o... moreThen you don't understand what Project treble is. Basically it's just a way for OEMs to update Android easier. Doesn't mean they will. Again, OEMs make money from where? By selling new phones. Updating old phones cost money, and doesn't generate revenue. So updating old phones goes way down the priority list.

Essen, 30 Sep 2018Forget the OS version. Why can't OEMs and/or Google ensure ... morePixels gets monthly updates, Nokia androidone devices, same, Xiaomi devices (3- A1, A2, A2 Lite), same, Motorola 2-3 android device, same.. Security updates, every month for these devices is not problem, and only Pixels are flagships, rest midrange phones from 2017 or 2018.

Andy Walsall, 30 Sep 2018My Husband and I have Moto G6 Play Android phones and no up... moreExactly. It's a myth that stock Android phones get spontaneous updates. They don't. In fact, correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think even the Android One phones like the Nokias and Xiaomi Mi A1 and A2 get spontaneous updates. Anyone on Nokias or the Mi got their Pies? Apart from the Pixels and Essential, who release OS updates the day they roll out and security updates on the 1st of every month, nobody provides updates. Or at least take their sweet time releasing it. After 3 years on stock Android, one year of MIUI and again a week of stock Android, I now prefer MIUI as security updates are decent and stock Android upto Oreo feels severely crippled, restricted and inconvenient.

I thought Project Treble will automatically send Oreo out of the box phones to Pie so easily. What a scamaz Google. Project Treble didn't work like it's supposed to do.

My Husband and I have Moto G6 Play Android phones and no update to Pie as of yet
If we had purchased iPhones we would get regular iOS updates.
The Moto G6 Play is essentially Vanilla Untouched Android so I can't see why it's not got Pie now.
It's annoying that Motorola will only give one major Android update as they want to sell you another new phone.

QCOM, 30 Sep 2018wanna try to purchase your OS License? android is free, not... moreI'd be happy to. I'd rather have companies make money with my subscription fee than ads or data mining. It might be a good idea to let consumers install their UI of choice -- MIUI, EMUI, TouchWiz, Stock -- in any device and pay a yearly subscription fee. I understand there will be licensing issues since AOSP at its base is a free system, and insert l under current terms, it may be illegal to monetise it via direct sales/subscriptions like Desktop Windows. But OEMs, Google and interested parties must arrive at some out of the box solution for sustained software and security support that doesn't impact their revenue. At least to consumers who are willing to pay for it. For all of Android's open source origins and customisations, stock Android barely gives any options to users unless their device is rooted anyway.

Look at those phones on Pie beta. No one will buy any of those.. they suck to majority of people.
You think otherwise? then you are minority.

Forget the OS version. Why can't OEMs and/or Google ensure monthly security patches are released irrespective of OS version? Just like Windows or MacOS on desktop.
