Oh this is ridiculous. Android is the "new Windows Mobile" in that it is grossly inefficient, full of bugs, very slow, laggy, always crashing, etc.
HTC would do better putting more effort to release nicer Windows Phone models since Windows Phone works so well, has no lag, never crashes, is as fluid as anything... all on a single core 1GHz. So with their Titan, etc. clocking at 1.5GHz Windows Phone surely is a pleasure to use. However this HTC Edge thing is huge specs trying to make Android usable, but the unfortunate thing is Android will never be usable. Microsoft even gave up on Windows Mobile because it was so terrible since it was the same as Android now is.
On a side note, for those of you who keep thinking multiple cores use more battery, they do not. With the CPU running multiple threads at once spread across cores, the same task can be accomplished with lower clock frequency (let's say a 1.5GHz x 4 core running a bunch of threads at 400MHz (lower voltage, lower current) vs. a 1.5GHz single core running the same threads at 1.5GHz (higher voltage, higher current). In saying that, HTC is only throwing cores at Android because it needs to run 1.5GHz x 4 full out all the time and that is why Android is so awful.
If this phone was released as a Windows Phone version it would most of the time be running at 50MHz - 200MHz and the battery would last significantly longer than the current single cores.
For those of you who have not tried Windows Phone because you've confused it for Windows Mobile (which was horrible) - I suggest you go to a shop and try one.

This makes no sense. Htc are old horse losing the pace. I instead will opt for samsung and nokia. Quad core is too early. Quad core introduction should be in parallel with battery advancement. Current battery in market are only good for dual core. I bet 2013 will be am ideal time for full fledge introduction and standard of quad core. Htc is just creating hype for its sale to boost

OK ??? A 5TH core at some 400-500 Mhz. You cant get any more power efficient that that with your dual core exynos.

Multiple core processors save power by turning of cores when not in use. It doesn't make them more power efficient than a single core processor of same clock speed. It would however make them more efficient than a single core processor of similar performance.

Why are people getting bees in their bonnets about the fact this is quad core? So what? Because it's a battery drain? If it's no good for you, don't buy it. It really is THAT simple! Why the need to slag the phone or HTC off?
And if it's not the number of CPU cores, it's the size of the screen...or something else. Moan, whinge!! For crying out loud people, give it a rest!

Many companies including Sony, Samsung, Sanyo(Panasonic), LG, Hitachi, GE and many university teams are working on it but there isn't any clear answer.
Some of them are better, but not cheap for comercial use(Li-on, Nickel-metal hydride and etc) or hard to manufacture in large scale.

Next year will also be the year of the battery, because really now? the power a Quad core phone will use up will be insane, why would things need to be fast when your battery will drain even faster??

It... moreWELL Disagree quite heavily a quad core will actually do more with less. the current crop of single and dual core cpus uses the same amount of power at idle and while being used then a quad core would as a user would not want a phone that does not last longer than the last generation of phones

40nm quad-core Tegra 3 can't compete with them in terms of power consumption(and most likely performance as well).
HTC is better to stick with 28nm snapdragon(which underperforms than Tegra series and exynos series) wich will be available Q4 of this year otherwise HTC will be screwed for big time.

Those who thought a quad-core phone processor is a stupid idea probably also thought that web browser without a flash support, capacitive touchscreen where you can't write/draw, unremovable batteries, gigantic phone screens, etc were all bad ideas too at the beginning. Despite that, these ideas survived the test of market.
If HTC wants to try something new, just let them try. There's no need to criticise their innovation. If it turns out to be a good phone, you can go ahead and buy. If it turns out to be a bad phone, you can't always opt not to buy. No harm done/money lost there. Worst case scenario, HTC loses a few million bucks, but not your money anyway.
By the way, without anyone brave enough to try new innovations, we will probably still be using the same phone by Alexander Graham Bell (if he even invented the phone in the first place).
