Wekll and foldable apple will sells for 5000 Buhahahahaha.
Anyway anyone with bare working grey cells will not buy this expensoie piece of junk where apart of being foldable there is nothing extra.
Many countries average salary is not even 1000 not 2000 so saving 1 year for buying a foldable phone is not an option its a stupidity.
Rather have well health food fresh clean clother and place to sleep than carry a 2000 eur phone but not having all that thats a lot more neccessary.

Though, I do feel that this is going to be received like the first iPhone: Revolutionary, the future, but not as good as other competition. Only after it gets launched can Samsung figure out what needs to be added and fixed

Whether the expansions should be by unfolding, or unrolling, the base display must be flexible. (Well in theory it could also be a number of edge to edge rigid display elements, that could be seamlessly combined, but that does not seem like a very plausible development)

If the whole device (and not just the display) is somewhat flexible, it could follow your body in the pocket, just like a wallet does - and that would ALSO be a positive thing that would benefit the vast majority of users that carry their phone/phablet in a pocket.

A lot of you seem to have trouble distinguishing between a flexible screen and an expandle screen, semi-flexible screens are a dead end gimmick, a few of you whingeing about others saying flex screens just a gimmick and then comparing to other innovations, but you fail to notice that those you do list are USEFUL , where as flex screens bring nothing of use to 95% of users, when makers finaly release EXPANDEING screens, they will sell well, because they are useful to a large percentage of buyers..Its a pretty simple difference, but one that some of you have trouble grasping..

Qwerty2018, 10 Oct 2018To think there is STILL someone with NARROW mindset at this... moreA few things:

                1. I was not comparing foldable phones with a tablet, I was comparing it with generic slab phones which renders your reasoning invalid;

                2. Even if foldable phones have potential just as you stated, I'd like to remind you that folding a display again and again will have its consequences, it will wear and tear as time goes.

                3. Foldable display technology isnt perfect, its still relatively new and still has a long way to go. Its expensive and not many people will find it useful compared to generic phones.

                4. Foldable phones will have a hard time getting an IP certification due to the fact that it needs to have flexible parts which are hard to water proof and even if a company succeeds to get it an IP certification, there will be always be trade offs.

                5. Ever heard of thin and light notebook PC's? Just get one of those if you really need a device to use in school. Those are more useful than mobile phones or tablets.

Now, let me ask you this.. who is the narrow minded person again? Was it me or where you pertaining to yourself? :)

Sure we could get more elegant solutions there too.

The problem with using a display while it is bent, is that there could so easily be something reflecting in the display disturbing the usage. This is easier to control with a flat display.

It is still hard to make displays with good details and a non-reflective surface - but who knows, maybe someone will crack that one too. :)

The holy grail of displays would be something that looked like print on a piece of paper with sufficient light. Sort of like a reflection-free semi-transparent multi-colour-e-ink with automatically adjusting backlight for usage in dark/dim surroundings too...

Some people might actually like it but not everyone will. Also, folding displays like the one on the photo above would need software compatibility which is currently not supported by any app or Android itself.

It might be able to be foldable in more than one direction.
Say you could fold a three part device as a "Z" to have one third visible, but also could fold the last part the other way round protecting the display completely. sort of like an "e".

I have a tablet and really want to bring it to campus for academic purposes, but I NEVER do that.
Why? Because it is quite heavy (300gr), big (10 inch screen & HUGE bezels), and VERY THICK (I use foldable leather case with keyboard, which makes it thicker & heavier).

With Foldable screen smartphone, I could bring only A SMARTPHONE & unfold the display to make it a TABLET when I need to do something WITHOUT ALL the problem mentioned above (I bet foldable screen smartphone case won't be that different and much lighter than my current tablet cases!)
