MediaTek's Helio P70 coming soon with more advanced AI hardware, insiders claim

17 October 2018
Like the popular P60 chipset, the P70 will feature an octa-core processor (A73+A53) and a Mali-G72 GPU. The new addition is an "NPU".

It's not coming to the new Switch (set for release in Summer 2019). Reason is the NVIDIA's exclusive NVM API (proprietary Vulkan). So I think this is going to be used for upcoming MS/Sony consoles as coprocessors for low-power tasks (system, background tasks, Internet browser with the game on background...)

Also this is outdated on arrival. A73, A53, G72... Just wants to milk on AI

It must have been on 10nm as well, if it really is a competitor to the SD710.
Not to forget, we are still waiting for the even better SD730, which would have the power of SD835 and graphics level of SD820. Maybe it would also be on 7nm as well.
P70 won't be able to hold its own, since its A73 cores already puts itself in a disadvantage to the SD710's A75 cores.

Too bad Mediatek no longer tries to compete against SD8xx series.
The X10 was on pair with SD800 ( I know 800 was two years older).
X20 was an awful chipset, subpar performance ( made to rival SD820, but weaker than 810). Not even counting poor battery life ( 10 cores did not help).

P20 is the best from them so far, pretty similar to SD625

Still compared to Kirin 980 or SD845 or A2 buionic is a lot weaker chipset.

Maybe, they might use it in an upcoming Realme.

The P70 may use the dated A73. But no excuses for the next upper-mid P-series SoC. At least they should have what it takes to manufacture A75/A55 cores on their next-gen SoC, if the A76 is somewhat unreachable. But the upcoming P70 will be a nice effort to bat away stereotypes that attached to MediaTek, though.
