Anonymous, 20 Oct 2018Surprise us with a new Mini and Apple will get my money. You mean a Mac Mini i hope. My suggestion is get an older 2012 Macbook Pro with 8GB and Core i7 (these dont have Retina and are fairly cheap to buy), open it and swap the old drive for a Sata SSD drive, start up with COMMAND R and install Mojave (its the oldest Pro model that officially can use Mojave) and BANG you got a super computer that connects to your favorite desktop monitor, mouse and bluetooth keyboard, all for a price thats LESS than the entry level Mac Mini and with 50x the performance, and like that wasnt enough it also has a built in DVD writer.

And last but most important, you buy a new Mac when the models with Apples own ARM processors are out and available. Lets see what they say about the new arc come october 30 but we know they will not say: "wait for it and dont buy a new intel based mac now".

I don't see why they need a new Macbook Air, its now default 8GB RAM and the processor is more than good enough. Those who need more processing power should go for the entry level Macbook Pro without touchbar that cost just a little more than Air and can be configured with Core i7 for a small additional amount and then voila, you got a laptop that will be fully useable long after Windows laptops from year 2023 has been rendered useless. Buy a used Pro and its even better.

Those who wait for new Macs must wait for Apples own processors, the new architecture is where your money should be put, not at an upgraded Air thats still inferior to a 4 year old Macbook Pro, its very unwise to buy a dead end architecture at this point.

Anonymous, 20 Oct 2018What are you rambling about there? I have sold my laptop an... moreI agree with you. My iPad has become my main productivity device. My computer is only for internet and YouTube as well to store things when my iPad is getting full. I haven’t done a presentation or written a document on my computer for at least 4 years. I think to never buy a computer again when it breaks. I have to do a lot of typing so I have a 20 dollar full size keyboard like those desktop ones at the office premanenty for when I need it. Better than carrying my laptop at work. My iPad is already 4 years old (Air2) but still works very well so I won’t upgrade until this time next year but as it seems the iPad is getting seriously powerful. Even Adobe who had snubbed the iPad for years start to realise that the future is the iPad and now they bring Photoshop on the iPad. That’s a victory for the iPad. At the end of the day what can be done on either a PC or iPad has nothing to do with the OS. It has to do with the apps and the iPad does have the processing power to run almost every available app. It also has some really good apps. It’s up to app developers to understand the potential of the iPad. I actually find the iOS the best OS for productivity because being so simple it’s not distracting.

imdumb, 20 Oct 2018I hope the new ipads have a calculator app! No . There is a new product." icalc". With physical keypad.

Anonymous, 19 Oct 2018Until they get a proper OS on their tablets I ain’t buying ... moreWhat are you rambling about there? I have sold my laptop and all I’m using now is the iPad pro 12.9”. Couldn’t have been happier. iOS is touchscreen-oriented whereas windows and its programs are mouse+keyboard first.

And android tablets are... well... clunky and on the opposite side of smooth and/or useful. Not to mention how prone they are to apps crashing, so you can’t do any real and heavy work on them, like video/photo/audio editing, design, coding, sketching, using long email chains, or securing your data and the information stored on them.

So iOS is the best OS you can currently get on a tablet as it ticks all the boxes.

Until they get a proper OS on their tablets I ain’t buying one. iPads have always felt to me like a “My First Computer” - plastic scissors for children who can’t handle a proper pair yet. A waste of money unless you like to draw and they don’t sell paper and pencils where you live.. in which case, you should be putting that money towards moving the hell out of whichever decrepit town you are living in.

[deleted post]I want to game on a small and lightweight tablet instead of a full blown, big and heavy laptop.

So if it fits my needs, I'll buy it. And since a laptop doesn't fit my needs, I won't buy it. Unless it's a MacBook, which I would need just for the graphics software that is available only on Mac OS.
