Sure the Tegra2 wasn't the best, but it was in early 2011 before the Galaxy SII and Galaxy NOTE arrived. And again, the Tegra3 wasn't the best in 2012 but it did great against the 2012 Exynos chips and lost only to Qualcomm's new Krait/Snapdragon 400 chipset.
The Tegra 4 was "okay" but it lost to both the Exynos and Snapdragon, and this was fine/expected in 2013. But they did rebound well with the Tegra K1 (phablets) and Tegra X1 (tablets) chipsets.... but at this point they were trying to charge more money than the latest Snapdragon 800 whilst offering worse efficiency.
And that was the last time Nvidia pursued the ARM's race. But they did okay in my books, and if they were a little less greedy, a little more innovative, and a little more luck. Well, Nvidia could possibly have established itself at the spearhead of Android devices even in 2018. They didn't want it as much as the competition. As they say "who dares wins".

What good is it having a 120Hz screen if the FPS in such heavy games (PUBG) are literally stuck at 60FPS. If you bump everything on low, resolution 720P and avoid thermal trottle you might get 80FPS (maybe a bit more) with a snapdragon 845.
On my oneplus 5T, using the BAGT software, putting it at Balanced, max FPS 60 shadows disabled i can get stable 60FPs with some hiccups in heavy battle going to the 50ish FPS.
120FPS on PUBG isn't achievable on any phone right now so that 120hz is totally useless.
You can see some nice and smooth animation on the android UI while swiping but it requires much more battery.
It might be nice but it's useless and for me a gimmick i defenitely don't want on my phone.
I rather want an awesome 60hz panel with high brightness nits, something that the Razor doesn't have.

Hmm, 22 Oct 2018Just remember what happened with sd810 ;)That's a valid point. It is fair to assume though that Snapdragon wouldn't do the same mistake twice, isn't it?
They could also consider going for Exynos SoC, as Samsung sells their chips to third-parties. Exynos are generally faster than Snapdragon too, so that they could even market that as a feature...
The thing is, for a gaming phone, it makes more sense to launch right after the latest SoC hits the market. Currently they launch when the SoC is about to get replaced by newer one, and is not even the fastest anymore (Dethroned by Kirin).

Unfortunately its all hardware and no software on mobile at the moment, with few exceptions.
iOS is still the better gaming platform, and even there we aren't getting the best games pushing the capabilities of the phones available today.
It will only work if users are willing to pay a higher price for games, in which case the developers will then be able to make money from making games on the platform.

When it comes to the best gaming phone, I would pick ROG, but the price is too much, Razer phone 2 us a good contender and has the sweet sweet price to back it up.

kammem2, 21 Oct 2018i only one thing, Vainglory is not good moba simply because... moreVainGlory is one of the best MOBA games created, #1 before MLBB was born, reason why you say it's not good is because your fingers are too slow for controlling where the skills will be casted, who/which to cast the skill to, and where to go by tapping the screen, that's classic and original MOBA, like LOL, DOTA, HON etc, joystick just just make it easier but definitely not challenging enough, VainGlory has a lot of demands that they have met including the creation of 5v5 and joystick and no games in their genre in mobile has the same gfx like theirs

There are no games to play on ... morethis is a bit biased because i do use a razer phone 1 as my daily driver. i am a casual mobile gamer and have bought the razer phone 1 not for its gaming prowess rather the refresh rate of the screen and the speakers. However, I do own a Nintendo Switch and while there are good games available to the Switch indeed, the razer phone 1 and 2 literally razes it in terms of specs. the Switch's screen resolution is only 720p while the razer phone 1 and 2 quadruples that, likewise the refresh rate on the Switch is 60Hz while those of the 2 razers doubles that. i guess in the end the razer phones are forward-looking, so to speak, and can very well accomodate the future of mobile gaming.

i only one thing, Vainglory is not good moba simply because it has dumb control system if you are hardcore player..Razer phone is good and cheaper than s9 but still if you are really gamer ipad is here for 650$ you get 10 inch screen!! or get iphone xs which is better game device in my opinion well, excluding battery life. anyways if you are not playing with your 100$ worth player account, better buy xbox one x:))

Razer and Asus can and should totally make phones/tablets that perform just as good as the Switch. I hope more 3rd party brands will make dedicated accessories/controllers etc for mobile gaming phones/tablets.
This could finally be the bridge between gaming on a console or a mobile phone/tablet.

Yeah gaming phones are dumb. There are no games to play on either android or iOS that would warrant those specs.
If you really want gaming on the go, purchase a Nintendo Switch. Or just pray we get more AAA games on phones in the future.

We need camera phone...don’t need gaming phones..I have already a Desktop...so, put a large camera sensor on it and makes your phone a camera phone to become popular

Razer Phone 2 is a Good phone, although like the article says the ROG Phone is the best gaming phone out there. For starters, Razer could bring a 3.5 mm headphone jack for connecting gaming headphones.
