Weekly poll: which of the Huawei Mate 20 phones is the best?

21 October 2018
The Mate 20 Pro stuns with its Leica camera and fast charging, the Mate 20 X with its huge screen, all four models get Android's first 7nm chipset.

Mr Magma, 22 Oct 2018I'd say Mate 20 X but that's not a phone, that's a tablet. It's only 86 mm wide, so it's still a phone. Tablets are wider.

can't compare with popular brands like Apple + Samsung

For pentile AMOLED it is pretty much necessary from around 6.5" - if beeing kind. From about 6.1" if being strict. And from 5.5" if used for VR.

Not sure what type of OLED the Mate 20 X gets, because this time they only call it OLED and not (super) AMOLED, so I sure do hope it's not pentile at that size and resolution. Given it's fairly high price I would not settle for less than RGB OLED with that resolution.

Duh! Obviously, the Mate 20 X is the best. It has a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a huge 5000 mAh battery.

If they had removed the notch on the excellent Mate 20X and put in a microSD card slot (instead of the useless NM card non-sense), it would have been nearly perfect.

They took away bootloader unlocking. F*** them. Not even worth considering.

Tooluka, 21 Oct 201820 Pro - 5 mm smaller, better battery and less hungry disp... moreThe headphone jack design may be old, but it isn't quite a standard, the impedance varies too much on headphones, as well as DAC quality in mobiles.
With USB C headphone-makers kan make their own headphones specific DACs built in to the headphones perfectly suited for that specific headphone and the signal could in theory be kept in the digital domain separate for each driver, all the way up to an AMP on each driver, that way one could be sure the headphone will sound exactly like the makers intended for it to sound. That is not true with the 3.5mm port, quite far from it. Makers could still make phones with both options, but the 3.5mm jack, the amp and the dac, does add to the cost, and potentially makes it a bit more difficult to make the phone IP-rated.
For those looking for best sound, the USB-C way is better. For the average consumer, included USB-C to audio adapter would in most cases do, or a cheap one if it doesn't come with one. Or they would be fine with included USB-C headset.

For me, I would probably have to buy a few DACs, so I would not forget to bring the right one, when I change headphone. But most people don't change headphones, so it could stay attached if it isn't built in.
So I would say that not having the 3.5mm jack could be an inconvenience at times, for some users.
On the other hand, for some headphones to work like they should, I would still have to remember to bring a better dac, if the headphones don't come with one built in.

None of the above. The proprietary NM card slot format killed it for me. These models would have been perfect with a micro sd card slot.

                        I'd say Mate 20 X but that's not a phone, that's a tablet.

At $673 pricing, simply the vanilla Mate 20 are the best choice for me.

I am a Sony guy, but I kind of wanted to purchase the mate 20 X for the big screen and big battery.

Voted "Mate 20 X" - because OLED, FHD+ (QHD+ is overkill for just a smartphone), big and not curved display (curved displays are useless); and "None of them" - because proprietary memory card standard is such a gimmick, and because of "waterdrop" notch on Mate 20 X - it's the most ugly type, much worse than Pixel 3 XL.
Also Mate 20 X can be unavailable officially in Russia, thus it won't have working Google Pay, like in Honor Note 10 - what the hell, Huawei?

It bothers me that companies seem physically unable to provide a single perfect phone (except arguably the note 9 ok i guess) but I feel if the Mate 20 drop face ID for the teardrop notch and if that then dropped the price even but just $30 or something to drop it below the awful 4 digits. I could live without headphone jack but if that was in the pro too then it would be perfect if you dont need the S pen. but instead youre left to pick teardrop and jack VS OLED and the camera and obviously the camera is a must have.

Why divide all best features? If it was meant to tackle the Note9 they should have added all of them to one device. then slowly water down the features for the lesser to for a lower price? Honestly confusing to me since one phone has the looks that I want while the other has the 3.5mm jack while the other has the IP rating.
