Go for Windows phone as OS! That would be the ultimate. Trust me on this one!!! But i dont know if WF can handle all the great specific harware sutch: fm-transmitter, hdmi out, usb on-the-go??
I am a happy owner of a Nokia N8. This phone still has the greatest hardware on the market, but it has a truly sad OS......
If Nokia release a phone running WF OS with similar hardware from a N8, it will be a success!

You guys are desperately clinging to "belle." Clearly wp7 is the better OS. I'm using it to type this comment right now. Once NOK releases the N8 successor and it proves to be a WP device, I will rejoice as windows will have the best camera phone on the market.

AnonD-18715, 22 Nov 2011Nokia's N8-01 requirements-
I've finally read all the 175 ... moreI have a symbian ^3, (sym. Belle) and work just fine.
After testing windows mobile and return to Symbiam.
Is very bad.
If you were talking about Android, it whould be completly diferente.
N8 successor should be with Symbian Belle, I think.

ADD, 22 Nov 2011Android OS vs Symbian OS!
u hate Symbian OS but i suspecte... moreI work at a firm that builds software for iphone, android, windows mobile and Symbian.
I personally use a Symbian Belle phone - Nokia 701.
Symbian Belle is much more versatile and complete than the other. The user experience is quite good.
Marketing says other otherwise ...

AnonD-18715, 22 Nov 2011Nokia's N8-01 requirements-
I've finally read all the 175 ... moreNokia never abandoned Meego. Instead, they've integrated it with Symbian.
It's a shame we won't get more pure meego phones though. Non-the-less, the 'MeeSym' phones will seriously be amazing.

Nokia's N8-01 requirements-
I've finally read all the 175 comments....
Processor:-
Don't expect too much from the successor of N8 as it is only a camera phone. Few mentioned 1.5Ghz Dual core and a quad core on it.... MeeGo was dropped by nokia and nokia won't go for android until the deal with microsoft ends....
Don't the looks of N8 is good.... Even a 1Ghz dual core is too much for symbian.... Because symbian's special is, it can run even on lower processor....
Cpu: 1ghz Dual core with better Gpu, as donna update needs dual core....
Screen:- Amoled 3.5 or 3.7 inch with CBD and 250+ppi
and with better resolution.... No bigger screens. It is a smartphone and not a smart tablet....
Camera should be 16MP but reduced to 12MP (as zoks said in comments) by software and if possible it should have xenon+led flash combo....
Xenon for images and led for video light(lol, i think its not possible)....
1080p @30fps or more.... And a phone with larger camera sensor cannot be thinner in size....
Why not windows:- As n8 users know how the symbian^3 works.... It is just the basic platform for symbian.... So carla and donna can do much better....
And the rest as in N8 with NFC....

guys rate this comment.
nokia please read me.
the n8 successor will be success if and only if the original pixel of the camera is not taken down. cause that is what makes the n8 stand still today. about the os, nokia should stop using the wp7 though myself was impressed with the stunning transition wp7 has offered. they need to consider to continue the development of meego. on the other hand, symbian^3 is another acceptable platform that nokia should use in their next future phone. nokia could make some innovation in social intergrating, messaging, homescreen transition, and invite all apps and games developer to their market. of course reaching such standard is necessary in order to prevent large numbers of garbage apps or games. hardware improvement need to be highlighted. providing great processor will make the phone smooth as fluid. adding 3d graphics is another advantage they may offer. finally, lagging issue is no longer acceptable nowadays. nokia must make a new tradition if they wanna rule this industries once again.

Those who want more than 8 mp on a small sensor like a cameraphone are deluding themselves. It won't make better photos, the only reason is to win at playground boasting "My phone's got more pixels than your phone. Yah boo sucks"
You want 16 mp? Man up and get something with an APS-C or bigger sensor, the Sony NEX-5N is quite good, and cheap-as-chips.
For reference, Canon (Who know a thing or three about sensors) pulled the count of the G11 down from 12mp of the G10 to 10 mp, and the new D1x (£5300) from 21 to 18 mp, and the quality is better.
No, give me a N8 size sensor, with 8-9mp and a 35mm equivalent Planar or Symmar type lens, the Tessar, good though it is dates from 1902.

Vitaliano G., 18 Nov 2011Finally!. I hope it comes before than a "better camera... moreI think as long as they keep the hardware of the camera up to date and make it state of the art... they should have no problem staying ahead of everyone. Currently I feel it is STILL the best camera phone available. And contrary to what the 8MP camp says.... more megapixels DOES aid in a better clearer image. Its not the only thing but it does help. So I don't think Nokia should dip the MP down at all... keep them high.

Meego is the only future Nokia has, Microsoft will bring them down to their knees just like WP7 has so far with other manufacturers.
Why spend 5 years developing the most powerful phone OS ever only to sell out to Microsoft, Hey Windows 7 is great, on a desktop.
Leave PC os to the people that know PC.... Microsoft.
Leave mobile OS to the people that know phones.... Nokia.
Giving Nokia Microsoft software to tinker with doesn't count.

Finally!. I hope it comes before than a "better cameraphone than n8" coming from samsung. In terms of OS, Symbian or Windows Phone are both good options.
Also I hope it doesn't get a crappy processor or low memory. It should be a real flagship

Successor of "top gun" N8 won't run on Meego OS because meego project is dead, the two choices WP and S^3 there aren't any other option.

Very happy for Nokia...seems the bleeding has abated...things are on the upward swing. I love the N9 with MeeGo in tow. Seems it was a good strategy to release the N9 to make ppl excited abt Nokia products again and i guess the reception ppl are having with the Lumia 800 is due to its likeness to the N9. For Nokia to really draw some of the ppl they lost to the now dominant OS...they will have to come up with some killer hardware...super camera's, take sound to the next level, more devices that can work on multiple carriers(penta devices), improve more on their Amoled screens, introduction of the new breed of super chips(Qualcomm S4,Tegra 3,TI OMAP 4470) etc... Would still love to see a killer Nokia device running Android
