I get it that they need to promote their best chipset for many OEMs who would announce their flagship devices, but mid range chipsets are cheaper and easier to sell to many OEMs yet they somehow get delayed, as if they're really something worth waiting for, when even some 3-year old SD8xx chip could beat it in, say GPU or even CPU performance.

Your logic is correct but at the end of the day, we as consumers hear new tech, are sold with the new capabilities of the same and never get them on time unless we spend top dollars for the same. So many SD SoC's launched but market adoption of them is never ending! What we do best, opt for previous gen stable tech whose performance and reliability is proven!

It's good to see QC stepping up but whether we get them on time or not, is something they don't care and can't control. But they can be more meaningful and controlled in their approach. I wonder how OEMs get older SD SoC for their newer devices!

Qwerty2018, 23 Oct 2018SD675 is actually a 'tone-down' version of the upcoming SD7... moreI expect something really high for Qualcomm's next flagship SoC.
Usually, the newest and most powerful Cortex design would first be used on the high end chipset before going down to mid range lineup, but if Cortex A76 already reaches their mid range lineup, then I expect something even more powerful than A76 for the SD8150. At least, that's what I thought when they did this.
And SD730's GPU must finally match up SD820's Adreno 530 for real. It's about time we get flagship level graphics on mid range devices.

no matter my sd820 lg g5 is fine proof of it is that is one of the few to get support for fornite no because I play that game but proof that the gpu is good enough to more aggressive graphics and cpu is fine as well so

Great chipset for sub 5" FHD (+) screen smartphones.
I know some people would still like SD8xx(x) chipsets. But on a phone with FHD screen and smaller battery due to smaller size, chipsets like this makes more sense... the alternative would be underclocking an SD8xx(x) chipset, but that would just make the device unnecessarily expensive.

SD730 itself was rumored to have 4core Cortex A75, but with the introduction of Cortex A76, I really hope it will use the latter; QC could introduced Cortex A75 core for more 'affordable' SD6xx SoC.
Unfortunately, GPU-wise, we could not hope much, as QC exclusively use Adreno which have 'clear' hierarchy graphic level (with Mali, we get the same feature; the difference: the higher the core count = the better the graphics performance. That's why Helio P60 could have Mali G72 despite only 3cores)

The current most powerful mid-end chipset, the SNAPDRAGON 710, its GPU can't even compete with the more than 3 year old SNAPDRAGON 820's GPU, it will take A LOT of years to catch up in the GPU side of things, yes a lot. Fortunately, it got help from the CPU side of things, together making it slightly more powerful than the SNAPDRAGON 820 overall. One thing for sure I'm happy with these new mid-end chipsets is that they throttle way lesser than those older high-end chipsets, as from what I've observed when looking at my friend's OPPO R11 with my XPERIA XZ, especially in games, it's most probably because of the CPU of the SNAPDRAGON 660 being far more powerful than the SNAPDRAGON 820 that's why

[deleted post]Qualcomm's lineup is quite muddy. In my professional opinion, I would line them up as such:
(worst) QSD 636, QSD 670, QSD 660, QSD 675, QSD 710, QSD 835, QSD 845 (best)
(cheapest) US$200, US$250, US$300, US$350, US$400, US$450, US$500 (expensive)
Why? It's because what you actually want is a good balance of Single-Core performance, Low battery drain, GPU performance, and Total/Multi-thread performance. And usually you get more gains from the architecture (ie A72, A73, A75, A76) than lithography gains (16nm, 14nm, 12nm, 10nm). While on the topic, AndroidOS is still immature enough to benefit greater from frequency increases than cache increases.
While I think more competition and variety is a good thing, overall, there's only three chipsets you need to concern yourself with:
QSD 636 (under $201), QSD 710 (under $399), QSD (over $499).

And it doesn't make sense to me.
If this chipset is the successor to the SD636, then Qualcomm must have something even more powerful than Cortex A76 for the successor of the SD710 next year.
GPU might be better on the SD710, as well as efficiency, but I expect the SD710 to be superior still in every aspect, considering the higher number.

Dilmeet, 23 Oct 2018Trouble is by the time these SoC are used by manufacturers ... moreIt depends on the price of the SoC.
SD660, for example, was the most anticipated mid-range SoC that, because of the hype, sold more expensive than its predecessor, SD650/652.
That's why Helio P60 became really attractive to manufacturers since it has the equivalent performance, both CPU & GPU-wise, of SD660 but sold much more cheaper; therefore made QC released SD636 to keep MediaTek aggressive move in check.
The point is, SD710, which has become the 'new' mid-range standard, is cheap enough that more & more Chinese manufacturers already equipped it for their mid-range devices.
Unless being more cheaper, no way SD675 could win against SD710 in all aspects, as QC has drawn 'clear' hierarchy for all their SoC (Flagship SoC > Hi mid-range SoC (SD7xx series) > mid-range (SD6xx series); although newer SoC could overthrown old flagship SoC, CPU-wise, the GPU will remain unbeatable for (at least) 2 years (SD710 GPU could not beat SD820 (Adreno 530) till date).
For me, if I could get better SoC (last year flagship SoC), albeit a little dated, I'll go for it, as newer ones, for the same price, will never be BETTER.

Dilmeet, 23 Oct 2018On paper may be but when in real will we see and compare is... moreI assume that Qualcomm is stepping up their game by next year, making the very powerful Cortex A76 cores a standard for their upper mid range, and they might be developing their own faster custom Kryo core design, the same way that Samsung utilizes Mongoose core design on their Exynos chipsets (proven to be effective with the Exynos 9810 being the first Android SoC to beat the A10 Fusion in single core performanc).

Just like I thought~ Next gen Kryo is the 4xx. So the ones in the 855/8150 will be 485. And 4+4 config likely. I assume the beasty Adreno 640 will be in tow, and 5G on board!

We had an SD 710 this is another waste. SD710 is a lot better and anyway 90% of manufacturers will stil use SD630 or SD 660.
