I'm not sure if you're using your brain while typing your comment about battery consumption, it will eat the battery ofc if it was 4K all the time, but when you watch youtube, netflix, amazon prime at 4K you will see big change... nobody said its 4k all time screen, silly blind apple fanboy.

But let’s talk about the screen, because that’s the main attraction here. At the risk of sounding like a stuck record, 4K is silly on a 5.5in display. It’s silly because your eyes can’t tell the difference between pixels that small. It’s silly because there’s precious little 4K content for Android. It’s silly because it drains the battery.
That last point also means that Sony doesn’t run the phone in 4K most of the time: just an upscaled 1080p. Which in turn generates another silly point: if it’s not dazzling enough to bother with 90% of the time, is it really worth it for the handful of cases when it can be used? “It’s great for virtual reality,” I hear you cry. Sure, but VR games aren’t rendered in 4K anyway.

Anonymous, 23 Oct 2018trust me people who use high resolution screens (like my XZ... morehope you realise 4K supported in limited apps only? Additionally unlike huge TVs Apple's hardware does the job fine. (not the top end though obviously)
There is benefit to this, namely GPU rendering as rendering for lower resoluition is easier, thus same chipset can give 'better' performance compared to ..say QHD or even UHD. Additionally Apple's software supportfor their device is fqar superior to Android in general.
That said, Android blows iOS in most parts..but then again XR is likely marketed at budget friendly/family who wants new iPhone with Full Screen experience at a ...'budget'. Also something that will last and handed down. For most of us tech geeks and hardcore users, Android is still a better platform for smartphone segment. Can't say the same for tablets though unfortunately.... :s

720p is not the terrible thing people make it sound like. Similar experience to iphone 4, 5, 6 ,7, 8 (326ppp).
Although I must admit they could have easily used a 1080p display just like the 7/8 Plus. Maximizing profits, I suppose.
