We're leaning towards "not". It also claims that the USB-C port will be 3.1 this time around.

Is in incredible the bull...t we can hear in this forum,
the company that doesn't use SD slot is only because they don't want to pay any royalties, they don't care about you need.
SD cards works perfectly , I am using them for digital cameras and smartphones and never had any problems, the speed is only few micro second difference so who care, with my smartphone I save only on my SD and when I take pictures, I don't see any lags.
when you use an offline GPS and you already have downloaded 100 of mega of maps you just put you SD in the new phone re install the app and it works immediately, you don't need to download again the all stuff
Now for the cloud and all this crap, 1- who want to put his private data with companies who will use them or scan them despite what the swore on the bible ! (google, apple and so on) and I am not even speaking about hack that you know about 1 year later !
2- not in every country you have an extraordinary data connection, WiFi, 4G or whatever, to upload your files, specifically when the pictures files are bigger and bigger .
3- the cost of those data plan are expensive if you want a lot of GO available at list in plenty of country.
4- If you did not save on a laptop, an USB (otg) key or cloud, and you break your phone, bye bye to your data !
At the end SD is the cheapest and safest data storage for smartphone !!!

see you !

AnonD-558092, 23 Oct 2018You speak as if 1- SD Cards are " 90's Internet " Slow. ... moreThe fastest performing MicroSD card I could find (which is still far under UFS 2.1 speeds) was the Lexar Professional 1800x microSDXC 64GB. A 64GB card for $100. ($1.50 per GB) The 128GB card is abut $180. ($1.40 per GB) These two are actually more expensive than the memory upgrades on the OnePlus phones.

I looked up another card that wasn't as fast, the SanDisk Extreme Plus 128GB, which was able to do writing speeds of about 1/3 of what UFS 2.1 does. This card is $109 on Amazon. ($0.85 per GB) This is also more expensive than the memory upgrades on the OnePlus phones as well as Apple's.

You could go with a $40 128GB card from Samsung (their budget line) and that would net you speeds that are what I am talking about. I mean, they're not even worth comparing. This is a respectable $0.31 per GB.

Let's look at the pricing of internal UFS storage now.

OnePlus: You can get 64GB extra (128GB model) for $50. ($0.78 per GB) An extra 192GB of internal storage is $100. ($0.52 per GB) You also get an extra 2GB of memory with these upgrades, but let's not talk about RAM.

Google: You can get an extra 64GB for $100. ($1.50 per GB) probably the most expensive flagship offering for additional internal storage.

Apple: You have the option of getting an additional 192GB of storage for $150. ($0.78 per GB) A whopping 448GB of extra storage is $350 extra. (also $0.78 per GB)

            Too late, too expensive

I thought that the price was going to be $550 USD, now they have it up to $660? Also, will the phone be waterproof rated? And what is the audio DAC specs? So many questions!

Buy the highest storage variant and enjoy your device! They never said that it is mandatory to use an SD card, did they? Also keeping tge SD slot empty won't affect you in any way, right?
And yes, as someone said, you are clearly talking like a proper Apple fanboy. You are happy with your restricted device so be it, you don't want to use micro SD, doesn't mean the brand should not give an "option" for that. That's the Apple way of business, not giving choices.
Most of us are those "budget mentality" people who very much appreciate having an SD slot. Even if I was stupid enough to pay a grand for a mobile device, I would go with the Note9 blindly, because of that slot mainly, and also the jack.

2- UFS storage is inexpensive. It's, by an order of magnitude, much more expensive than UHS-I, U3 cards.

Get a UHS-I, U3 SD Card. With 95MB/s, you can transfer content under a few seconds. And V30 cards let you record ultra high bitrate (240Mbit/s) 4K videos directly on them. Directly writing on the cards means no "wasted time" transferring. After for sharing, not everyone has a fiber multi-Gigabit connection for you to upload at UFS speeds. The only beyond-Gigabit fiber Internet I ever saw was 1.5Gbps and data center plans. But that's a very small minority in wealthy countries that can get this (I have "only" 300Mbps fiber)

Taking burst shots and 4K video, only having to move it to external storage is definitely time-consuming, tedious, and almost a complete waste of time if you have much faster means to store and move data.

This doesn't really convince anyone with half a brain of what you're trying to convey. It only further perpetuates misinformation of why internal storage is so great on smartphones.

I keep bringing up the speed and performance difference because it is the main reason companies such as Apple, Google and OnePlus (among others) have chosen this route.

Also, convenience of transferring data using the sd card once every 1-3 years when you get a new device isn't exactly the best trade-off for poorer performance during the entire lifetime of the phone.

                                    why you rise the price?

About transferring data, Yes we can transfer data by all the means you mentioned, but not a single one of them is nearly as quick and convenient as moving my SD card from one phone to the other. Instant & Simple is always best.

I won't further argue with you as you're not willing to accept that your argument is baseless.
