Solid components can easily be compartmentalized and connected via flex cables across a hinge (it worked for classic 'flip' phones). Alternatively, solid components could be housed in a base that a flexible screen unscrolls from.

cog, 24 Oct 2018A supposed innovations since 2011 so it has been almost 8 y... moreIt was announced in 2013. Dont exaggerate it to 2011. And it already implemented in Note Edge since 2014. The only thing Samsung keep waiting for is developing hardware and material that can be bend with the phone itself, not developing the flexible display. Even flying cars still not happening since 20th century. This foldable phone is happening in less than a decade. Graphene battery is also happening btw in case you havent read Samsung announcement.

Apple year ago unveiled a charging mat prototype still nothing about the mat or if this concept will be released and build or not.
Samsung is same.
They waste tons of money on something which will never work just to say its not possible to have it.

What about durability and scratch resistance?
How touchscreen will work on foldable display?
What number of folds/unfolds can screen take?
I prefer regular phones and tablets. I dont think that they will have a lot of success.

I expect scroll shaped TVs in the future.

Book-fold flex-screen clamshell phone gives you the portability you want most of the time, but extra screen real estate when you need it. A flex-screen clamshell tablet would protect the screen and be more portable, but in would also be significantly more expensive than a flat one, while offering only a modest increase in size over the folding phone. I don't see the market for this.
