i have been preaching about razer phone 1 because of the "ultra motion" 120Hz display and the speakers; i am currently using a razer phone since my galaxy note 4 stopped working and i sold my note 8 more than 3 months ago. i didn't mind the lack of the headphone jack; that eventhough i sometimes use the phone to do some music production sketches and practice djing when on the go- the latency on bluetooth is quite minimal and workable.

then a week ago, the left half of the display started freezing. the right half still functions as normal, and the freezing half recovers in a few seconds; but sometimes it wouldn't recover at all and the only resort i have is to reboot the device. i was thinking this was because i dropped the phone in no more than a foot high in its early days, and some display connectors inside may have broken loose. then last night as it was happening again, i thought of setting the refresh rate to 90Hz because i have had it on 120Hz since day one. i was surprised that the freezing of the display is not happening. i have contacted razer about the issue but i haven't got a response yet.

my question to the experts here- is it safe to say then that the gpu on sd835 is not able to handle the 120Hz properly as the freezes do not happen on 90Hz? i'm not so sure exactly how razer executes this "ultra motion" on the gpu, but of course seeing that the half screen freezes only happens on 120Hz setting seem to confirm this is the case? help, please.

Walter C. Dornez, 25 Oct 2018It's great to have on most phones, but on gaming phones it'... moreI would like to disagree about the headphone jack being a must on gaming phones, here's why.

These "gaming phones" come with loud & crisp stereo speakers, usually forward facing ones too, they're not just for show, they're meant to be used for media & gaming. Using earphones or headphones (wired or otherwise) would kill the point of having those enhanced speakers.

Besides, how often do you see people gaming on their phones with headphones or earphones on? Not that often, do you?

I know some people just can't live without the headphone jack... well, this phone is obviously not for them. They might want to look at the ROG phone instead...

Zack rightly points out why the 3.5 mm headphone jack, (which the Razer phone lacks) is so absolutely crucial. People would do well to listen to him and learn, instead of blindly arguing.
