Google moves to discontinue voice unlock on Android

The Google Pixel 3 is the first phone to not include this feature.

I use Google Assistant all the time with the phone in my pocket. It almost always unlocks and does what I ask. So great for reminders, timers, spell checks, gps etc. I'll really miss this if they take it away!

    It never worked tho.. IDC.. I tried but a failed.

        Samsung Galaxy, 27 Oct 2018Useless and terrible feature to unlock phone as we all unlo... moreSo far no unlock feature is truly hands free, voice and facial/retina could be the ones but we all know how the process is like on iPhone so it's a shame this isn't secure enough but could this be combined with facial unlock so we can tell he phone to wake up then it just scan our face/retina. Good for people driving, or have their hands full or dirty.

              I don't care about unlocking the phone but it would be really useful if i misplace the phone somewhere is having G assistant just to answer to my shouting "i'm here"

                  Aww... It was the best way for me... Oh well.

                    Useless and terrible feature to unlock phone as we all unlock phone with fingerprint, iris, face or pattern that is much more convenient.

                      it never worked anyway, as all it does is turn the screen on, and it's a nightmare when you want to talk to your phone when driving, as you still need to manually unlock it to do anything.

                        IMHO, this is a better implementation!
                        I'm using this feature regularly and it works almost all the time. But I do have a friend who's also using this feature and her phone gets unlocked by the voice of her daughter! Lolz... :D
                        So definitely, this needed to be fixed and it's nice that Google is at last doing it.

                                  where is pixel 3 review?im dying to see that and camera performance.but just dont send us one of those XR likes

                                    Seriously.. No matter what I had to refrain from enabling even the normal "Hey Google" command even when my phone is unlocked because a lot of times it won't even recognize my voice! It is such an insult in front of someone when Google Assistant doesn't respond on your very first command.. or Second.. or Third!!!!
                                    Seriously.. its very irritating.

                                      Smart choice. It's high time that companies stop gimmicky unlock features taken right out of sci-fi movies like voice unlock and face unlock, that can be tricked easily by twins or similar-sounding and looking people. Cases in point:
