I have been a Symbian fan since the start and just thinking of it dying bleeds my heart. I can't bare the thought of moving to another OS, since I dislike WM, iOS, BlackberryOS. I guess when the time comes(hotfoot it will not), I'll move to Android. Eish!

guys why u ppl worry about dual core quad core etc? look at the os, its symbian which is known for its efficiency & power management.so ultimately it will be performing the same work which a quad core android will be performing. just compare nokia 701 single core with any dual core 1ghz phone, u will hardly notice any difference in speed b'cos thats the beauty of symbian.

and u cannot completely say that nokia will dump symbian by 2016. the dumping is completely dependent on sale of symbian smartphones. if sale of symbian belle, carla & donna picks up the it will be sure that nokia will continue it & bring more&more updates. if not then surely it will dump. but i feel symbian will be forever because ppl disowned it only because of its "ui" & now since its ui is on par with android it will again enter growth stage. decline stage of symbian is gone!!!!

sad to hear about just a long delay to get Belle onto E7. Think I'll have to run the hacked version of Belle on my E7.

Also sad to hear that the C and D versions won't be brought along to older smartphones. E7 hardware is so good, that I wont need a new phone till 3-4 yrs down the line. So I guess, the E7 will be my last Symbian & possibly Nokia phone.

AnonD-11222, 17 Nov 2011man nothing beats Android in fragmentation not even Symbian This is for you and also everyone who cryes about better specs, more cores, more anything getting better , more phone launches:
So what does fragmentation actually mean and what does it do to your phone ?
                        1) Once you buy a phone you shouldn't be entitled to updates for life. Be glad you do get something.
                        2) If you buy a highend phone and another one , a better one, comes out in a month's time, what does that have to do with you ?
                        3) Look at any other product on sale : tv, radio, dishwasher, vacuum cleaner, hair drier... Are you entitled to upgrades every time a beter model comes out ?
                        4) If you high end phone is doing everything you want when you buy it, then why complain because a newer phone is 0.5% faster, 0.5 % lighter, 0.5% brighter ???
You should say thanks for the updates you do get. They come for free.even if you only payd once for a phone, a fully functional phone.
It's still functional once the newer model comes out ?? If yes, then you shouldn't complain. There's no contractual link between one product and another...just like wiht any other product fridge, dishwasher, car, lawn mower, deepfryer
                        GET IT ???
If it works then what do you want ? Buy the new model if you feel -.5 % in speed gonna change your life and turn you into a god.
None is forcing you to compare or upgrade every tiem a new model is out, it's just you complaining and winging. If it works perfectly just live with it.

makes perfect sense that older s^3 phones wont support Carla..they (especially N8) would kill sales of newer nokia phones if they can support new symbianOS.

what dont make sense is why bother with dual core support for a system that they will kill anyway. reason? maybe they decided they wont kill it.who knows..

the alliance with microsoft dont seem to bring any sort of advantage.nokia's windows phone devices dont seem any much better than other manufacturers.so for now, symbian still is nokia's no.1 source of money.

Symbian does most of thing in a single click what we are want but android need extra click for doing that ha ha ha....
                            symbian is simple to operate.
                            Huge people still love symbian.
So symbian would be like fenix bird to fly

at first, nokia stated it will abandon the symbian OS in 2012. now, the abandon year is 2016. nokia may just prolong the abandonment longer than 2016, hopefully.

I feel that Symbian should be let to live for decades to come. All a user (like me) of a phone is concerned about is
                                      - consistency and ease of use of its GUI,
                                      - the extent of functionality that the OS and the GUI offer together, and
                                      - the number and ease of availability of application programs for the OS and the extent of functionality they offer.

Symbain, as an OS, satisfies all the points above. It's a matured platform in terms of functionality. If anything needs improvement, it's the GUI. And Nokia has considerably improved the GUI over the last couple upgradations. S60 was nowhere close to Anna, everyone will agree on this. However, everyone will also agree on the fact that the GUI needs to be polished more.

Symbian is not a resource (processor speed, RAM) thirsty OS, which means, for instance, a user could expect same performance on a Symbian phone running a 680 MHz processor as some other resourse thirsty OS running on a 1 GHz processor. The advantage in this case would be a better battery life with Symbian.

So, as a loyal Nokia user (I'm loyal to Nokia because of the quality of hardware they offer in their phones), I feel that they should not abandon Symbian completely.
