I dont think windowns phones will do that well, there not popular like symbian belle, they should stick with upgrading symbian belle cause be the judging of belle it is doing better then I thought... windows phones might kill nokia....

Considering most people's 2 year contract ends late 2012/early 2013, who cares whether last years models are updated to Carla and Donna. The important thing is that they've already received the Anna update and will get the Belle improvements early next year.
Let's talk about 99% of current model android handsets released over the last 18 months - 44% are running software that is 12 months old and 41% are stuck on a version that was released 18 months ago, which means that at least 85% of people who purchased an android phone over the last 12-18 months were abandoned after only 6 months. What's even more interesting is that apart from Sony Ericsson, it looks pretty certain that other android OEM's will only be offering the ice cream sandwich update to a select number of high-end dual core handsets.

bongbong, 18 Nov 2011Android phones look generic. And by this time next year, most of the world will be using Android while Symbian continues to decline The irony is I was one of it's biggest supporters until Nokia didn't get with the times to adapt and future proof the OS which now has IOS, Android and soon to be WP7 which Nokia has chosen as it's favourite son abandoning Meego and Symbian leaving it out in the cold. Say what you want, but the stats clearly disagree with you with a continual declining market share for Symbian and a huge rise for Android.

no one is going to buy those carla and donna devices knowing that there is so little time now left for symbian, same as no one is buying the new belle devices. the only way to get carla and donna to majority of people is to rollout these updates to existing symbian^3 devices since this version clearly has the largest userbase for symbian. well, i really doubt that symbian^3 won't get carla at least. symbian updates are all about servicing now and not about making and catering for entirely new devices. and besides nokia has not formally and officialy spoken about this matter so why everyone is so haste to jump into conclusion?

Good on Nokia for continuing to pursue their own OS and show a truly "Nokia" approach to phones: capable, low-power and tough as nails.

Now that Accenture is taking care of the software itself, Nokia can concentrate on their own strengths in design and functionality.

Way to go Symbian. Just today I've proven to someone - well, I'm not rich, neither is he - that my old battered Nokia E51 can run circles around his Huawei Ideos. For the stuff I'm using my phone for, it's all I need.

Again, the nokia haters converge on a nokia topic.

Again, im puzzled as to why you even bother to comment or even read this news of you hate nokia so much.

                            Amusing....

I'm guessing android users are really getting scared of the fact that symbian is improving so much (no matter how slow the pace is).

Anyway, 2016 is still far away. things can change.

Even if Carla and Donna are not "officially" released for Symbian^3 and Anna handsets, some one will cook up versions that will work. It's likely that Carla will match Android in visual appeal or better, and Donna will be truly optimized for dual core and larger amounts of RAM. Though, it must be that Accenture does not believe the 680MHz processors and 288Mb of RAM will be enough. Nokia will have supported these lines for over 2 years, so that's pretty damn good in my book.

Symbian is an AC Cobra and Android is a 1 ton truck. Put the same Big Block V8 into both and the performance difference is clear.

nikhil, 17 Nov 2011So Nokia is going the Google way in naming the Symbian OS. ... moreDuh? nobody owns the rights to do things alphabetically. unless google/android bought it. everybody and anybody can do things alphabetically. its a known way of enumerating things.

And before that take a look at these comments you posted!! They show the level of your fanboyism!! Admit it, just how nokia did it,

SYMBIAN HAS LAGGED A LOT COMPARED TO COMPETITION!!!
