What well working windows has to do with that bloatware from apple???

The price in our local region is quite good - starting at $1,249 (Australian dollars). That's much better than I was expecting.
I'd probably be paying an extra $300-400 for the Mac Mini, but in my opinion, that cost is worth it to be able to move away from Windows.

    Thanks for your reply.

This is because some use 27" screens, while most of them need 32" screens for their work. Anything under 27" is not going to work.

All of them will use external keyboards, as they are bigger and more comfy to type on.

Headphones for all and a couple of them will have external speakers.

And then there's the laptop portability and work-on-the-go advantage that is never going to be put to use. Employees have no need for this, as it's against company policy to take their work home. They are not allowed to work on projects outside the office, or even send emails after office hours. Work does not extend outside the office and 99% of the time it does not intrude employees' personal life. Work stays in the office as it should.

I can understand if you said you didn't want a lumbering and huge tower but a small laptop would be far better. There reaches a point of stupidity and it's when you chase after one ideal with diminishing value (space can be an issue but after achieving a certain form factor there's a redundancy to targeting space

Anonymous, 31 Oct 2018size matters, i know.... but now like this -.- FYI my ... moreIt's priced at $799 and most people will buy a configuration in the $799 - $1,700 range.

The $4,200 one is for people who want all those specs inside a tiny package. (people who do not want to fill up their desks with a large and bulky tower case)

For a minimalistic and clean looking office, I would always go for the (physically) smallest package that provides a decent performance for the tasks it needs to run. I will most definitely not want to fill up the office space with tower cases or anything bigger than the smallest possible form factor. And if I do this for the office and someone needs a more powerful machine, I would go and get the $4,200 one for that person. It would still be small and slick and would not be an eye sore at all.

For those who don't care about the form factor , the most logical thing to do is to get a tower case as it's much cheaper.

FYI my Asus laptop is very thin, and it costs me like 2500$ (1 and half year ago)
                i7 6700HQ , GTX 1070, 24GB DDR4, 4K screen, 1TB HDD & 512GB M2 SSD.
Now this what we call performance for the money in a low profile machine... worth the cost... that Mac mini got only slightly better CPU (more cores), SSD and Ram is not that expensive for 64GB ram and 2TB SSD....

even for desktop pc... who cares about size anymore?
some people likes to buy customized full tower case because it's cool, and got better cooling system (maybe water cooled) not just 1 small laptop fan like Mac mini.

I'm sorry to say it but only fools who can convince themselves that this top Mac mini worth the 4200$ price...

Anonymous, 31 Oct 2018typical apple, taking a cheap pieces that costs less than 2... moreAnd can you fit all those components in a case the size of the Mac mini? No, you can't. You would need a big ugly case that uses too much space.

That's why the Mac mini is expensive: because it delivers a lot of performance in a very small form factor.

That's why MacBooks are expensive: because they deliver a lot of performance, battery life, and component cooling compared to the small footprint they have and how thin they are.

That's why iPads are expensive: very thin and light, yet they provide so much power and battery life.

It's expensive to get performance, battery life, and cooling in the thinnest and smallest spaces possible.

A 2.2 cm (0.9") thin laptop would cost X amount of money.
The same perfomance fitted in a 1.6 cm (0.6") thin laptop would cost X + 50% or 70% more money. You always have to take the form factor into account.

That's why a desktop PC costs half (or even less) than a laptop with similar performance. Size matters!

Prices are unbereable, as Apple caught its users on price hype wagon and it works specifically well. But for these kind of money you can built quite a beast, which will annihilate in performance that little mac mini and will offer much better productivity

                      Way way too expensive

But what i like about Mac minis is its idle power consumption.. 5Watts only, and virtually silent underload. Perfect for a 24/7 headless machine that you put somewhere and forget it. Runs backup / servers / torrents, which i can control on Mobile.

However now.. i do not know if its as quiet or power efficient as it once was. Maybe with that extra power, 10G ethernet and egpu support, we can add game streaming to the list.

typical apple, taking a cheap pieces that costs less than 200$ (core i3) and sell it for 800$ just because there is an apple logo on it... what a shame.

for 4000$ i can buy threadripper 2 and 2 RTX2080Ti with best parts available.... not what apple is offering.

I was thinking of buy one new Mac Mini but sorry 800 for i3 and 128 gigs is too much.

The base model with Core i3 processor, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of flash storage asks $799, which is a considerable price hike over the $499 sticker on the previous generation.

$799? The Mac mini used to be an affordable way to get a macOS computer, which is why I encouraged my dad and grandmother to buy one. They've now been using their Mac minis for years without any issues. As long as you weren't a gamer or power user it was a great computer for the price. But at $799 I can't recommend it anymore..
