No need to buy from outside the EU, plenty of retailers selling official Global version Xiaomi phones across Europe so no import or customs. Identical to what Xiaomi UK are selling but without the massive markup.

Of course they would be more expensive here, things like import duties and having to honour warranties add to the cost, plus VAT has to be tacked on as well.
Anyone thinking it would be as cheap as buying from China is deluded, and that is not Xiaomi's fault.
Personally, given I have only ever needed the warranty on a phone once, I was happy to take the risk and save money by buying from China, but other's might want a warranty and are willing to pay more.

I like Xiaomi but the mobiles are hideously overpriced on their website. Why buy an A2 Lite for GBP £170 when you can buy the same global version new for GBP £120 from other retailers?
Have Xiaomi even heard of exchange rates of have they just replaced the dollar sign with a pound sign?

Andy , 08 Nov 2018Honor phones are officially sold here, they have their own ... moreI don't think this is the case. The UK has a huge market for budget smartphones and not everyone cares about contactless payments or NFC - Xiaomi are selling through the company I work for (3rd party) on EE and Three and we've received a lot of interest due to free gifts etc.
I think their packages like the Smartwatch/Mi 8/Tablet bundles etc will sell like hotcakes. I cannot remember the last time a customer called me to enquire whether or not their handset had NFC in this year alone - Huawei's P20 Pro and Mate 20 have been a huge success for us without it.

Anonymous, 08 Nov 2018Huawei?!? Ha ha ha ... I thought Honor brand is for the as... moreHonor phones are officially sold here, they have their own UK versions normally the only difference is that the UK versions have NFC which it seems all Xiaomi phones under £400 will lack and people here aren't gonna pay £330 for the Pocophone if it doesn't have NFC. It's a standard feature here, people will expect it especially for phones over £130
