> I agree some people will find the inset Infinity-O divisive, so Samsung shouldn't go ahead with this & divide their customer base, yes some will brush it off, but some won't.
1 of the main reasons people choose/ remain with Samsung is because they make the best screens with no intrusions or interuptions in their display panel.
If the Infinity-O is ready to be made transparent to allow for the selfie/ video camera lens but not affect/ interupt/ interfere the screen display, then great go ahead.
Otherwise don't bother, stick with the minimized bezel & improve the existing components, especially speakers.
I don't have any intrusion on my TV display panel or any other display panel & I don't want 1 on my phone's display panel where it's even more noticeable at close proximity either.
A dead pixel would be noticeable, but not nearly as bad as a hOle punched through the display.
How can anyone call a display "Infinity" if it has a hOle in it?
DO nOt dO it Samsung ●

Sure, Infinity-O will be divisive and some may find it off-putting and instead go for another flagship--pretty much just Sony flagships at this point. However, far more people including myself would brush it off either because we understand the direction Samsung is taking with the S-line or simply because they don't care.
People weren't supposed to like the notch remember? Yet the iPhone and its notch clones from China continue to outsell the competition. Thankfully, there's plenty of choice available. Don't like it, don't buy it. Vote with your wallet. But remember you have just one vote in a market where hundreds of millions of devices are sold every quarter.

The "gimmicks" may be useless to you, but they're the primary reasons why the Mate 20 trio will outsell Huawei's previous flagships. Reviewers and buyers seem to think the "gimmicks" are good enough.
Samsung has to tow a similar line especially because they've been burned before when they went overboard and also because they have to keep prices reasonable.

The 'super duper fastest charger ever imagined' is again not a big seller for me, My S8 will last all day on whatever size battery it has and I use it for work and pleasure. And when I need to 'top it off' when it's a little low (low as in 45%) it takes less than 30 minutes to have it back up to 100%.
1. Gradient colors are nice and pretty, but useless for anyone who wants to protect a pricey investment by putting a decent case on.
2. Reverse wireless charging is again retarded, why risk scratching the display by placing any object on it?
3. In display fingerprint sensor is again 'cool new tech' but why keep your finger stationary just to leave the oils in our skin on the phone, makes a dirty display which leads to an unattractive phone. Fingerprint on the back is perfectly fine.

Despite the Vivo Apex the 1st to introduce it on prototype, Huawei Mate RS got the 1st title of in display fps launch onto the market.

Anonymous, 13 Nov 2018I for one dissagree about how the Samsung should do the thi... moreYou'd do well to read the history of the S line again. I think you missed something.
The S3 is the only Galaxy phone to outsell the iPhone. Then Samsung doubled down with throwing everything at it and it simply was too much. Sales faltered. The S5 too was lampooned for having too many gimmicks.
With the S6, Samsung finally listened and swung the pendulum too far back in the opposite direction by becoming more like Apple. By the S8/S9, they'd become Android's Apple in all but name. I skipped the S9 for that reason.
The bottom line is that although Samsung has to throw features at its flagships (that's what we loved about the brand in time past); it doesn't have to be excessive. Case in point, the S4 and the Note 7 (where trying to fix in too much battery capacity ruined an amazing device).
The Huawei Mate 20 that's getting all the love has 4 major features. Its gradient back, in-display FPS, it can charge other devices wirelessly, and top-of-its-class fast charging. It doesn't appear to incorporate every new tech out there, and it's a winning formula.
I'm glad Samsung finally listened to the market, rather than continue to tread in Apple's less is more footsteps. But they have to use their experience and give us something reminiscent of the S2, S3 or original Note. Not too much, not too little. Just perfect!

Genesis, 13 Nov 2018A notch, by any other name, is still a notch! That's just lazy. A notch is a cutout from the top bezel down. The Infinity-O is not a cutout from the top bezel down. i.e not a notch. It's very simple to understand.
Screen cut-outs are the next thing after the notch. What follows after screen cut-outs are under display cameras and sensors. Samsung is skipping the notch in its flagships. Why I have to spell this out to supposed "enthusiasts" is beyond me.

It's not about whether Infinity-O is a notch or not, what we care is that something will block in sight when having fullscreen experience. Make it a hole or a notch will both affect video playing experience, that's why I'd rather choose bezels over notch or hole.

No
Not
Notch!
#No! to the O.
Samsung!, step away from the Notch!
Even having a centralised U waterdrop micro notch is better than an inset O punched through the screen.
IMO the O is a P.R. marketing gimmick to claim that they have have a notchless, bezel-less display.
No notch is best, having no notch is a U.S.P. nowadays, if Samsung isn't ready with the underscreen camera, then no problem stick with the minimized top & bottom bezels for now and make the speakers even better.
This would be my preference.
If they really want to remove a bezel then remove the top one & put the centralised sefie camera on the bottom one (you can always rotate the handset 180° when making selfie/ video calls).

Think this looks pretty obvious, the 2 Premium GS10's get the newest Infinity display, 'lower' S10 the O then working down to the range with the other v and such.
