It's a hit and miss, well a miss mostly, unless you are using it under total-pitch-black environment. If its totally black though, Night Sight does make the images look like wonder photos.

I think the most disappointing thing about the Pixel 3/XL is that they don't improve enough upon the Pixel 2/XL. Aside from wireless charging, i don't see any reason why anyone would want to upgrade from 2/XL to 3/XL. It has the same design, same camera, same RAM & storage, same features (except the wireless charging), same battery, and so on. It's honestly underwhelming.

Weird how just now makers are starting to catch up and even surpass the infamous Pureview tech of those days. Be interesting to see how Nokia goes about reinventing pureview on Android now that Lumias and the great 808 are gone.

Anonymous, 14 Nov 2018There is no such thing as 'optical zoom' on a mobile phone ... moreActually, there have been a few iconic phones like that in the past. Such as these:
https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s4_zoom-5447.php
https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_k_zoom-6210.php
But we likely won't see those kind of phones these days because phones these days are slim and slender, which makes it impossible for them to have proper zooming hardware.

It's a good camera for single lens. But it's 2018. And single cam phones are so 2014. Also the night time shot seems good. Not P20 pro good. But quite good. Again should of use multiple lens to get a better quality image. I hope they fixed the poor battery life.

Walter C. Dornez, 14 Nov 2018True, though the fact that they achieved that much with onl... moreMy thoughts exactly. The camera has never been an issue, the rest is low range. Poor BT/wifi, message deletion issues, too small battery, glass back, no jack, beta software.

Walter C. Dornez, 14 Nov 2018True, though the fact that they achieved that much with onl... moreThe thing is, it shouldn't have had a single camera in the first place. A single camera, no matter how good cannot provide optical zoom or wide-angle shots. Google added dual-front cameras for this very reason. It makes no sense for them to put single camera on the back, especially when they're charging as much as the competition.
Camera aside, there's nothing special about the Pixel phones. People who want stock android can just go for OnePlus phones, as they have enhanced stock android combined with tons of RAM, which ends up performing better than the Pixels...

To those wondering about the difference between Google Night Sight and Huawei Night Mode, it is as below:
Night Sight: Slightly brighter image, more noise, less sharpness, less dynamic range
Night Mode: Slightly darker image, less noise, more sharpness, more dynamic range
You don't have to take my word for it, see this video for your own conclusion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vxei2boZv_U
I know which one i prefer. ;)

I kind of like the regular samples better. The nigh sight processing makes the images too processed looking to me.

It looks bright enough, but too much noise. The noise destroys it

While UHS of Xz2 Premium using more ISO and faster shutter can achieve better results without any blur.
At least this one is not as poor as Mix 3 or OP6T that uses one shot of longer exposure without lowering ISO. They do pretty poor photos.

I've also taken a few shots on my 2 XL using the modified APK that enabled the new 'Night Sight' feature and the results were amazing, even in it's non-final form.
Taken a shot in near pitch black conditions, the images was full of noise and looked like a painting, but you could clearly tell what was shown, that is certainly something.

I expect this camera feature to be one of the most useful ones on future phones, very impressive.
