Beautiful? depends on the phone and the implementation but if they are small enough they don't have to be a detraction and can add to a premium feel by giving you more material.
Personally I wouldn't go back to the size of bezels / frame on an iphone 8 any more but on more modern looking androids it's not so bad.

18:9 ratio helps better in multitasking, Optimised For Virtual Reality, Mobile Gaming etc.
But for the movies 16:9 is a standard and it's not gonna change soon. Movies with black bars will get benefits of 18:9 display for example 1920x800 resolution or such but not 1920x1080 (this resolution will have black bars in left and right).
As for your question, content exactly 18:9 will not hide the hole it will always be within the video and it'll irritate the user for the eternity. And also we don't even know the ratio of the upcoming infinity o display. S9 has 18.5:9 ratio so it is not necessary that it will have 18:9 display and it can be different.
Phones with notches are of 19:9 or 19.5:9 ratio. So when you hide the notch with black bars it becomes 18:9.

A phone with notch ban be 6.4 inches for the same size that a bezelled phone would max at 6 inches.
It makes absolutely no sense to use a bezel when a tiny notch can do the same just fine.

Movies which has black bars (top & bottom), on stretching the hole will be covered by the top or bottom black bars. That's hypothetical for now.

Man, I hope they go full display for the other two, though a 2 mm home doesn't seem so bad, especially of is in a corner

However, if it's on the far left or right hand side, the hole will be where the black bars would be, and not masking any part of the movie.
