I'm a fan of DND service though, that's why i'm not thinking about other complications that it might bring. I'm not big on saving my privacy. I don't think privacy is an issue for me, not at this point. I don't have anything valuable to offer.

PS - I agree with what you said.

Indian politicians may not be smart enough but they are cunning and all they need is some crook to lay out the plan to them on how to collect, use the data and make money. Money is their language.
Aadhar is supposed to be safe and they stupidly gave mobile operators the power to gather data in the name of registration and there were various breaches. Another problem with not so smart politicians is that even if they are not interested in stealing data, they would give access to the one who wants it.
The first step from our side is to limit the information we provide through the internet and hope no one steals it.
Hope without precaution is just stupidity.

They don't care about stuff that do not scream money from afar. They can sell that information to other companies though. I'm not worried about that 'cause there is high chance that all our info is already public, after all we use Google, fb and stuff.
On other note, Aadhar information is handled by a supposed to independent department.
In this world, you can't trust anyone. But being too paranoid will make your life hell.
You can only hope that everything would be fine.

In a corrupt country like India, you can't trust anyone with data and especially the govt since its controlled by corrupt politicians.

martinodv, 01 Dec 2018I would say that most governments would like to be able to ... moresometimes one gets calls from important people whose numbers we don't have. i guess you have a weird life if you only receive calls from ppl in your phonebook.

the DND rationale is to prevent unnecessary spam calls from banks & other financial institutions (need a card? need a loan?) or other spammy organisations or touts (child dying of etc. needs donation) or other unsolicited ads etc., with a proper protocol/process for raising complaints. its actually pretty good.

Europe has a national do not call registry which is very similar to this DND. When its acceptable then, why not in this case?

How ironic that the country where the majority of these calls come from at least in Australia and employs so many India's, is also sick of them

I would say that most governments would like to be able to monitor telecoms traffic
and if they don't it's because of the fuss that would be made or the infrastructure is not there.
There are many countries which openly do and several which covertly do.

You can sort of whitelist. Just do not pick up calls which your phone contact list does not identify. If the caller cares they will leave a message.

Glad that India is starting to fight back !
I must admit that 99% of scam calls I get here in Europe have an Indian accent.
