Don Hrle, 04 Dec 2018Kirin 980 rendered obsolete already because of Elite Gaming optimizations and built-in NPU?...gimmicks and cheats on K980 how you call them are now no more...hypocrisy level max.

Whackcar, 04 Dec 2018I think the same. IMO this would make the benchmark score l... moreAccording to Anandtech, Huawei has the better approach.
Instead of making it 1+3+4 (eg 2.9GHz, 2.1Ghz, 1.7GHz), which is really good for benchmark scores, its actually better practical performance overall to have a 2+2+4 (eg 2.7GHz, 2.3GHz, 1.7GHz).... even though both configurations have the same total performance.
However, what we know so far is that the Snapdragon 855 will be better on benchmarks AND slightly better in practical performance because it is slightly higher clocked overall. Unless the cache benefit of the Huawei comes into play. Here's what we know from the "leaks":
Kirin 980: 512KB-2x2.60GHz + 512KB-2x1.90GHz + 128KB-4x1.80GHz
QSD 855: 512KB-1x2.84GHz + 256KB-3x2.42GHz + 128KB-4x1.78GHz
Kirin 980: Total Cache 2560KB (142%), Total max frequency 16.20GHz (100%)
QSD 855: Total Cache 1792KB (100%), Total max frequency 17.22GHz (106%)
....again, these are (max) theoreticals so the end (practical) result is expected to be much weaker on both devices, so either one can come out on top. If you want more information on it, I suggest you wait for the Anandtech Benchmark/Review which is due in a couple of months.

Well this all sounds interesting.
When a Snapdragon starting with 9 will be annouced a 6 maybe 7G network will be available at that time.

Anonymous, 04 Dec 2018Even Qualcomm copying Huawei now lmao, GPU Turbo and AI galoreApple started NPU and GPU turbo is just a tool to fool people. They downclock their system just so when they overclock it to normal level they can call it turbo.

Thats a lie, the Kirin 980 has a headstart of being in the market for 5 or 6 months.... before people actually have in hand a phone with the Snapdragon 855..

does anyone has information about the new x50 modem? will it be integrated into the soc or separated like previously reported? i fear that it's battery life will be bad like the first 4g phone that use dedicated modem instead of integrated one.

Anonymous, 04 Dec 2018Probably 1 for benchmarking, 2 for performance, and 4 for d... moreI think the same. IMO this would make the benchmark score less meaningful because we'd know the performance out of it doesn't apply to real-world usage. Still, let's wait for more details to show up before we assess this any further.
Qualcomm was certainly right to stick with SD855. There's no need to change the product name yet.

I've seen the comments. Welp, I hope SD855 scores as hard as Apple and Samsung.
I guess I'll stick with my Nokia 8 (2017) for next year. In my opinion, it's underwhelming despite catering to the gamers in mind with their OFFICIAL optimization.
