go to Settings, About Phone, Software Information, Take the last three chars in the Service Provider SW ver.
(And on the "get", did you go to software update, and check manually, or wait for it to be delivered?)

When comming to updates Samsung is alwas last.
When comming to bugs and any other problems Samsungis always first with apple.
Never read problems with chinese smartphones after update.
And even Poco got fixed.

Believe it or not, there is a NEW one, just three days later!!!! This time based on Dec 1. security level. Kernel Dec. 4.

S8 gets pie when... morePersonally I would rather have continued security updates, than a major OS update.
Especially as the major update could be close to the expected end of update life of the S8-/S8+, so there is a risk that even major flaws in their first take on Pie might newer be fixed, as the S8s pass into oblivion....
If we are lucky the newer S8Note gets it first, so they find the worst bugs before they get to the older S8s.
(But I expect to be off to a real QWERTY device before that...)

If what you said were true Apple wouldn't be Apple, brand loyalty is a very hard thing to let go for most customers, Samsung has their own loyal customers even though complain they just get on with it and succumb to marketing ploys ending up upgrading. Many don't even realize they are being had by their favorite company and end up upgrading thinking "Gosh software has just gotten more demanding". With carrier contract plans these days upgrading to the next phone is done with small down-payments. The customers don't realize they are being swindled in broad daylight because they don't have to fork out the whole MSRP of the new phone.

LARRY, 11 Dec 2018mine is g955f i got security patch update last week!Ah you got a different beast. There is no guarantee that they are updated at the same time. One could have vulnerabilities that the other does not - even if they are closely in family.
Also there could be differences between Exynos and Snapdragon variants.
