Gary Sims already investigated this topic and found Android apps use 6% more RAM than iOS. iOS has a better compression algorithm as well which shrink running apps into a saved state, the biggest difference though is that the app does get killed while it is doing something in the background because it didn't have enough RAM to continue without compressing it.

Though it's hard to change to anything, if you got 10" Samsung exynos tablet from 2016, and no one offers similar stand-by/idle performance. It's a must have for reading of books. With the power tablets and phones got today, it's only about updates and no-lag performance, if you got both, there is hardly reason to update.

Anyone thinking its unusable with such memory, search for ext hdd with wifi, there is plenty of ways to expand memory...

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2018but it's going to be 8" version. 10" starts at 280$also less powerful SD 660. A10 fustion is on par with SD 835, with stronger GPU if anything. Yes it only has 2gb but on iOS thats not really a problem. 32GB, again, is not a hige deal breaker at this price point.
I have Air 2 and iPad 2017, both at 32gb and both works perfectly fine. Can't say same for samsung s2 tab which came out abot same time as Air 2...

for $229 i don't think they are serving expensive appetizers. It works right for my mom because she just needs a fast ipad to watch streams, read some emails etc. most photos are in the cloud and stuff. I know 32GB is not alot but i am ok with it. If it was $229 for 128+ no one is gonna buy their $1000 ipads.

Why would anyone fall for a $229 ipad that only has 32 GB internal storage and no micro sd storage expansion? That amount of storage is seriously lacking for a gaming and multimedia oriented device meant to showcase high resolution photos, videos and games in glorious retina display and powerful mobile processor. It's like ordering a $229 menu for your birthday blow out with friends and serving them only expensive appetizers with no main course, desserts and beverages. Skimping on the essential (storage) doesn't make up for the premium but less essential features.

32GB only with no micro sd expansion? No thanks. It won't last a year without filling up the entire internal storage with 4K videos and high quality photos and games, and crawling to a stuttery mess thereafter due to filled up storage. So much for the fastest mobile processor speed and the best tablet appstore.
