Quietly brilliant.

I am debating between this and SoundLink2. Which would you suggest regarding sound quality and over all NoiseIsolation (since even though 700N are noise cancelling , they are pretty basic)

Anonymous, 29 Dec 2018Any WIRED headphones with 3.5mm connectors with NC SIMPLY B... moreYes they beat THESE but not a good pair of wireless. The most important is still the quality of the drivers, and thats what makes headphones like 1000xm3 so expensive, the times when we paid a premium for the bluetooth are long gone.

The wired fanatics never mention one very important thing: the need for high current from the device to drive big headphones. No problem with in-ear, they require almost nothing, but plug in a big high end headphone and your device may not be able to deliver enough juice to drive them in a good way, which is why they sound better when connected to a laptop than a phone. Even if your phone does an ok job it will drain the phones battery a lot more than wireless would. Bluetooth dont have this limitation, the current is delivered from the headphones dedicated battery to the amp to the drivers and they extend the phones battery life.
Needless to say that my 1000xm2 sound horrible when connected with 3.5mm jack to an old Sony Attrac player, not enough juice, and the battery is drained at an insane rate. Bluetooth adapter and same headphones, excellent sound and battery lasts a day.

Anonymous, 28 Dec 2018Which is more comfortable, CH500 or CH700N? The CH700N are ... more700N is more comfortable but the cups are not deep enough for most ears. Anyway it depends if you want NC, if you can do without then the 500 has great sound for a very small amount. Cheap materials but solid.
Note that 700N will not be good enough for metal/heavy, it struggles too hard with the guitars in many cases.
AirPods are great if you can spend more, excellent sound and never fall out, best for activity, best all round and handles all types of music.

And as i know all 3,5mm jack fanboys will still have arguments any wired earphones or earplugs are a lot better.
Wireless and bluetooth is the future and leave jack the R.I.P, status its time come to an end. Even too late but let it go to eternity.

this depends on many factors though...
ldac supports up to 990kbps if I’m correct in saying , tidal streaming hi-fi outputs 1411kbps... so even ldac can’t get all the detail.. next is can most people hear the extra detail , now even if you compare it to aptx hd has a bitrate of 576 Kbps which is more than most streaming services like Spotify and deezer output , so theritically it can support over the max amount being transferred.. for these streaming services but it’s debatable on how it converts say the ogg vorbis format of Spotify to aptx hd to transmite it over Bluetooth.

Latency is the nature of it being wireless, it's like saying an OLED has better blacks than an LCD, yet most people don't notice the difference between a good LCD and an OLED.

Anonymous, 27 Dec 2018The USB C connector being reversible already beats that argumentFYI: You can get micro USB cables that are reversible on both ends. Just search your favourite online store and you'll find quite a number of them.

You only buy these for wireless and ANC. But for half the price you can get better sounding headphones that will last 10 to 20 years. These will last only a few years. Unfortunately, the market wants wireless headphones, even though they have upwards of 30% failure rate in a few years.

The CH700N are going for € 80 and the CH500 for just 38€. I would mainly use them to watch YouTube videos, also a tiny bit of music, so I guess the sound of the CH500 would be fine for me, but I am worried about comfort. Another option would also be to just keep my EarPods (the wired ones that come with an iPhone).

Agree with the review. Used the headphones for a week - very good balanced sound via AptX HD but much worse via cable with power off. NC is not so good in quiet condition but better noticeable in noisy surroundings. Confirmed, the software update via the app is available and takes up to an hour. The battery life is superior - have not drained the factory charge yet after a week usage of 4-5 hours per day.

I purchased these Sony CH700 headphones a month ago for £79.99 in my local shopping centre. I compared them with the Sennheiser 4.50 headphones in the shop and for my relatively large head and ears I found the Sony headphones more comfortable.

I have used them on two long haul (approx. 9 hours) flights going to and from a holiday destination. I connected them directly to the airline entertainment system using the cable and found the noise cancelling effective re aircraft noise. During the holiday I also used the noise cancelling feature of the headphones when listening to local radio stations using the FM receiver in my phone and that worked well.

As far as the comment in the review about not being able to use the headphones for making phone calls in wired mode, that is easily overcome by purchasing a 4 pole to 3 pole lead including microphone. I purchased the lead for £6.99 from a well known on-line retailer's UK website. I used the lead for phone calls whilst on holiday and the calls were of good audio quality in each direction.

I have pair of 1000mx3, paired with xz2. on the move, the connection can cut off it the sound quality is set as priority.

other issue is support for ldac on devices, which is far and few between afaik

I've tried several headphones on a shop, including mx2 and Sennheiser 4.50, and these were the most comfortable to me.
True that their NC is crap but I feel their sound quality is very good for their price in offer (it's very easy to find them on offer, I bought them for 90€).

I disagree with this review, 700N does not have that good sound, and the comfort issue is severe, the plastic grille behind the duperthin fabric is constantly grinding your ears. Bought my pair on sale, luckily, or else i would have been upset, they are not worth their regular retail price. I ended up buying the 1000M2 soon after, at more than 3x the price but M2 is worth it. What a difference, the comfort, the folding design for bringing in airplane, the touch controls, and the audio quality is in a different league.
However 700N is not horrible, good build quality and acceptable audio, better than JBL but at 700N’s regular retail price you be much happier with Airpods, i use the Airpods more often than the 1000M2. Also can recommend the Sony WH-CH500 for those who got tired of wires but are on an extremely tight budget, great audio quality for the price but its on-ear and squeezes a bit hard.
