The Lumia line up was capped in the hardware specs bcz WP didn't support a lot of the SoCs. Also they settled for lower end SoCs bcz acc to MS "WP doesn't need it" and "cz it just works" but more importantly bigger profit margins for what was essentially a niche product on Nokia's part. New nokia devices aren't exactly a niche. Which maybe a slight disadvantage for them. Also android supports basically every ARM-based SoC under the sun.
It might be bcz like with LG with the G6, they just didn't make that much of money to get the latest and greatest while beating Samsung to the punch..

Or whichever you want. Pixel camera is overhyped trash. If i want low quality paintings instead of photos, i would hire artist. Landscapes are awful with Pixel, only scenario when it delivers is relatively close single objects.

The barging about SD855(as a lot of users her are doing) is ridicules cause it just would delay device more(they need re design phones internal completely which will cost more money and time)

Still if you have the same die(in this case CMOS) size the 12MP would benefit more than 41MP one! And i am well aware that actual pixel size matters!
companies are going for F1.5-1.7 for main camera which completely eliminate the problem point you mentioned.(seems you forget this little fact also some devices have lower than F2.0 on selfie cam)
alongside of lacking HDR and computational photography the 808 suffers from huge bump due the big lens which is necessary for big sensor and it seems today's customers are not fan of such thing(personally have no issue with such thing)
If you do your photography in well lighted situation than there is little deference between 41 to today 12-24 ones(i am not saying there isn't any)
keep in mind computational photography plays big in dark scene as we seen in pixel 3 and other phones
