HP has launched the first Chromebook that features an AMD processor. The new device, called the HP Chromebook 14a-na, is powered by an AMD A4-9120C processor, which is a dual-core chip with a base clock speed of 1.6 GHz.

In addition to the AMD processor, the Chromebook 14a-na features a 14-inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. The device also includes a microSD card reader, two USB-C ports, one USB-A port, and a headphone jack.

Like other Chromebooks, the Chromebook 14a-na runs on Google's Chrome OS operating system and comes with access to the Google Play Store, allowing users to download Android apps. The device also includes features like automatic updates and built-in virus protection.

The inclusion of an AMD processor in a Chromebook is a notable development, as previous Chromebooks have typically used processors from Intel or ARM. The use of an AMD processor may offer improved performance and battery life compared to previous Chromebook models, although this will likely depend on the specific use case.

Google Chromebook, when you want less computer and more spyware. Why anyone would pay twice as much for a Chromebook than a regular laptop is beyond me.

Rex Tech, 07 Jan 2019Guess i'll have to carry an external HDD 2 Tb around me then.Agree. A Ryzen 3, 4GB/64GB would have been an MS Windows killer. I would pay $400.
I'm using an Acer R11 right now, it's a bit low power especially when running Linux.

                I think Ryzen-3 is 65W ... whereas this is only 6W.

What's advantage of chrome book compared by Windows laptop?

I tried a Chromebook but it couldn't run PDAnet to get it tethered to my phone's unlimited data. Then I discovered the $200-300 Ultrabook PCs offered from Teclast and Chuwi. They blow all of those Chromebooks out of the water.

iComent, 07 Jan 2019Why would you carry that? This is chromebook. Because he doesn't know what Chromebook is about.. it is one of the limitations with Chromebook, but it also is a handy one. Internet connection is a must for it.

It would only cost more and there'd be very little difference for the average user.

Celeron is fartish, Pentium is Hyperthreaded fartish, i3s are (since Kaby Lake) more efficient dual-core Hyperthreaded fartish, and then you have the more reasonable i5 and i7, especially the Coffe-Lake hexa-core processors (non-hyperthreaded on i5) or the absolute overkill i9 if you are the type of person to burn your money to keep your house warm in the winter.

Also since the computer/laptop is weak from day-1, you are more likely to upgrade quickly.

The 30$ upgrade sounds much better. Slightly faster CPU, better FHD touch screen and a better GPU.

But I'd live to see a RYZEN-3 processor rather than those outdated APUs (that's how AMD calls them). Because a dual-core processor sounds weak. Are we still in Core2 era or what?
