Belkin unveils first non-Apple USB-C to Lightning cable

07 January 2019
Until now people with an iPhone and a new MacBook had no option but to pay for the Apple-branded cables.

;-)

Likely the first MFi-certified cable, meaning it'll actually be up to the specifications and quality guidelines set forth by Apple. So you don't have to worry about it frying your device, or not working properly, which is something you need to worry about with cheap Chinese knock-off cables.

As soon as I saw that Apple made a USB C to Lightning cable I thought to check Amazon. I bought a USB C to Lightning cable by McDodo for less than $16US. Plus it has the 5000 or 6000 bend warranty.

They probably pay Apple royalties... Just like companies that make lightning headphones do. They have to pay Apple for using their tech. Apple are probably fine with this tbh. They don't have any costs but they make money per unit sold. People will still buy the Apple one if they want to as well and not go to Belkin.

Why do websites keep reporting this is the first USBC to lightning cable that isn't made by Apple? I've owned a non-Apple lightning to USBC cable for about a year now.

Well, there're brands like Baseus and Promate that sells these USB-C to Lightning cables in the Philippines for less than 10USD, so... uhm...

Belkin making profit out of Apple's intelligent strategy of marketing proprietary units. Let's see what will Apple do next.
