Xiaomi has a lot to learn from Huawei in this regard... but then again, Huawei is a telecom giant, while Xiaomi claims to be a "Mobile Internet" company (that can't even have proper customer relations, repair and warranty information systems like all *decent* smartphone manufacturers do).

In order to go forward, Huawei needs to once again adopt a developer friendly stance, with easy bootloader unlock available, as well as actually working drivers for their own SoC (in an ideal world libre, but if they just matched Qualcomm's binaries quality it would already be enough).
A while back they were going in the right direction, but probably got frustrated by the fact actual freedom, libre and verifiable software is a serious mountain to climb (and they were still no where near the top). This caused them to go the very wrong way of not allowing anyone to change the ROM in their newer devices.
Until this changes, any words of caring for privacy or freedom are just that -- words without substantive actions to back them up.

I don't know how they are able to be successful despite the higher prices vs other Chinese phones. When they were starting to get popular in 2014-2015, I noticed how thin and seemingly high end it looks

Man they have the best customer service here in Bulgaria, in contrast to other OEMs that don't give a heck for the users.
Huawei is one of the first to release Android 9 to previous flagships, while others are still in beta.
New tech, new features, best camera phone till this day, top battery life.
Just nothing to complain about. You can laugh all day at huawei haters and their punny phones.

Haters everywhere, but its minor, Huawei is going from strength to strength and is now being copied by the likes of google, apple and samsung

For a non stock Android, they are good.

Good for Huawei. Latest update on my Mate 20 finally bring back the 'OEM unlock bootloader' in Developer Settings. Seems like they improving & listen to customers overtime.
I wont unlock though, as i dont find anything that can hurt my Mate 20, slowing down or features etc. for now lol. Its a beast of a phone.

Kudos to Huawei. I still have old mobile phone which i bought back in 2006 made by them but branded Vodafone. And it still works. Jumped on their wagon in 2017 with P10 vtr-l29 ( got it on 2 yrs contract) and it's wonderful! No lags, updates are quick, camera is great, not a single issues with the hardwer. Looking forward to P30 pro
