It makes sense not to include the latest 5G in devices and save quite a bit by opting for the already existing (4G) standard. However, if you look at how many people buy 1-2yrs old devices today (because they're still a good value and work relatively well for an average user), they will certainly be missing out of the much faster speeds in 2021 and so on.

Of course, you could argue that this is a marketing strategy to make people upgrade and to 'the latest and the greatest' and you'd be right. I'd say that all manufacturers should hop on it as early as possible, but we all know that's not possible due to all of the strategy plans they might have planned already.

The 5G is not so important yet and Apple wants to be sure that the 5G does not eat too much battery and test it properly until they put it in their phones. Nobody buy Apple because it has 5G or not buy it because it does not have it, until 5G is mainstream feature that just works!

abigfanoftechs, 09 Jan 2019People said the same thing with 3G, 4G etc ... I have already get advertising to move 5G even if I don't have 5G phone. In here we already have 5G in some big cities. Soon more big cities will get it. By the end of the year and 2020 most big cities have 5G net. Not the rural areas, but 5G is mean to increase capacity, that is getting low with 4G in high density areas. So if you live in town. 2020 may be good year to buy 5G phone. Those who has money will buy it this year. Those who live in the countryside... Don't bother! The effective distance is so short that only areas where there are a lot of users are sensible to 5G!

          Well just few things.
Why to release 5G phones which will be available to less than a 3% of global population.
And another question why to release 5G enabled phones if a 5G modem and CPU wil cost hundreds more.
We ordinary peope with average salary can wait 2-3 more years when the 5G tech will be much more affordable and much more in availability.
Having 5G phone like the 5E fpr AT and T is holy mess nicely said.
          Thus no interest at all.

With flashing tag lines "do you want to pay $2000 for an outdated and slow mobile ?" People will be hesitant to after such expensive outdated ones.
