Samsung had a 5G phone prototype at CES, hidden in plain sight

10 January 2019
The company didn't make a fuss about it so it was lost among other 5G display pieces.

xen, 11 Jan 20195G is will not start without iPhone. All networks worldwide... moreFalse, 5G will go mainstream when Apple offers it, but they will only release a 5G model when coverage in some major markets reaches a large enough population base to justify the expense.

Gandalfdenvite, 11 Jan 2019Why not use wifi for most Internet of things, and is not a ... moreIoTs does use wifi only if you inside your home. But if you are outdoor with no wifi how do you control your home then? From controlling thermostat, microwave, doorbell, coffee maker, lawn mower, security and lightings that is just small part of it. Misconception of IoTs only related to home is not quite right. IoTs also involves cars, commercial environment, and other technology incorporated in public.

Landline you ask? 5G reduce the current 0.27-second latency period to 0.01 seconds, a crucial time reduction in any surgical procedure. 5G will also make it possible to increase image quality and definition, a key factor for medical teams to take decisions with as much information as possible. Driverless car decades away? I guess you havent heard of Waymo.

There we go again with conspiracy theories about manufacturer just trying to sell equipment and make money. Sure...I hope you not a flat earther.

4G is yet top be fully implemented in many countries. I'd say in the whole world there is 60% 4G and 30%3G and still 10% Edge depending on the carrier.
5G is basically the same as 4G but better in terms of saturating an antenna.
Not good enough update for me to spend on a phone to get that feature. Maybe in 2-3 years it might be worth it but now, it's too expensive and simply not worth it.

Sever Clear, 11 Jan 2019no one give sh!t. :))Obviously you do. Lol

Outdoor using 3G is ... moreWhy not use wifi for most Internet of things, and is not a wired optical landline still a far better alternative for remote surgery, and gaming? If there is no optical landline then there probably is no 5G either anyway!
Driverless cars are still far, many decades, away from safe enough, and trains/buses are still a far safer/better alternative!
I think 5G is mostly about the fact that most countries now have fast enough 4G, so Ericsson... needs to convince everyone that they need "5G" so that Ericsson again can start all over to sell new equipment to every country...!

Zendroid, 11 Jan 2019So? Nokia had one before them. no one give sh!t. :))

Outdoor using 3G is enough for me. 4G if I need to watch live stream or something with no wifi. 5G needs is mainly on the IOTs stuff. Remote surgery for example definitely dont want the doctor to see delay from the screen he watching while moving around robot arms that dont match real time movement. Multiplayer gaming with low latency. Live streaming from multi camera angle without delay in stream. I also think self driving car would need it for faster reaction with all of its sensors scanning the surrounding. In other word 5G just get rid of delay. 4G get rid of buffering. 3G get rid of stupid and useless 2G that barely usable for internet.

Nice, but we still need to have the 5g network support.

Exactly what are the benefits of 5G, other than faster battery drain and very bad connection indoors...?

                            I bet the prototype was a S11 .

It is already obvious that you cannot test the 5G phone with its speed since there is no network that can provide 5G connection in Vegas yet. If they're going to promote it and put it on front then what is the excitement about?
It only have the tech compatible for 5G and there is nothing else you can check.
